Bulldogs are the best bag type target and I've had a Rinehart Block, For a LONG time even with broadheads. Bill

I like the compressed straw idea.  I know you can pick a spot and shoot, but wondering what creative targets you guys put on the bale to shoot at I.e paper plates, etc.

Second favorite is an old, rotted stump.

In fact . . . make that my favorite!  Works for broadheads, too.

Golf T's, leaf, pick a discolored or bright spot on the bale that exist naturally, a bit of mud, a shot of spray paint.....anything you can use. Ive also pinned actual targets to them using a golf T in each corner. 1 5/8" wood golf tees at Walmart #200 for $10

The archery range at a local park has bails, when I use them I use disposable chopsticks to pin on targets.

baby dolls, Michael Jackson CD's, a Mr Coffee, pics of Chuck Adams, old cassette player, animal photos cut from magazines, etc.  My buddy and I had a weekly shoot in my garage one winter. We tried to come up with off the wall targets to destroy. Clean up involved a broom and shovel.    :)

The rinehart 18-1 is the best target I've ever used.  It's east to roll out in the yard a ways and take out back and shoot in the woods.  Broadheads will tear up anything if you shoot them enough; shapes start getting cut out.  When this target wears out (I'm giving it 3+ years) I'll buy another.

Morrell outdoor range bag last a long time. If you wear it out you can order a new cover for it for $30 and fill the voids with old clothes or rags slip the new cover over too the bag and your good to go.

A carpet target....1000's and 1000's and 1000's of rounds

Have owned several blobs, several Outdoor Range Morrell's and other Morrell versions, McKensie, two Blocks, two 18 in 1's, Plastic filled bag targets, Clothes field Bag targets, Outdoor clothing insulation bag targets, Ethafoam bales, Straw bales, Celia bales and a host of others...much prefer the carpet target: both durability longevity wise, easy arrow removal, custom sizing, low maintenance and significantly less expensive.

Estimate that this carpet target has absorbed approximately 15,000 rounds and appears to still have over 90% remaining available life before requiring total replacement of free easily available used carpet. Have yet to reposition any layers due to worn sections.

My basement target is made from recycled plastic bags and shrink wrap . It's a 4x4 target that I've been shooting for 20 + years . When I get a warn area I just fill it in with shink wrap and re wrap it tightly .

Shadowhnter, X2. I have two tightly framed hay bales behind the shed, which have lasted at least a full year, maybe two so far. Keep 'em tight, covered, and off the ground.

Just got a compressed bale that Shadowhntr's describing a month ago, to try it for broad heads (they tear up regular bales). Pretty impressed - been shooting b'heads out of my 45# bow, and they don't penetrate much further than the head itself; stick pretty tight so you need a solid pull to get 'em out. That one's down in the woods, but I still got it off the ground, with a good sized cover. Looks like it'll last a good long while, even with broad heads. Field points probably would hardly make a dent. And yes, 11 or 12 bucks around here at Tractor Supply.

For broadheads I like the Reinhart 18-1, a little spend but worth it IMHO.  Field tip I shoot w a cheap bag target

Golf tees!  Can't believe that did not occur to me-- great idea.  Also like magazine animal targets.  That's for the ideas.

I don't have any golf tees lying around (that was WAY more frustrating than trad archery) so I use the tacks for felt roofing paper to hold target faces to compressed straw bales.  The little orange caps are good to shoot at of themselves.
