I hunted traditional  for the last few seasons with mixed success but always loved it. My second daughter was born three months ago so i bought a compound just to take out if i didn't have time to shoot. Well I shot a button buck with it a couple of weekends ago and I tell you what it was the only time I walked up to a deer and was disappointed. No more for me and I have a lot of shooting to do to catch up.

I'm glad I never tried hunting with wheels.

Getting good with trad gear takes more dedication, and is harder than getting good with a compound! A guy can go in an archery shop, and in an hour they can have him hitting bullseyes at 20yds. It takes some guys years to be able to consistently hit the bull at 20yds with trad gear. Because it is so much harder, the successes are that much sweeter!!!

I am never going back either. I hunted with the wheelie bow for 10 years when I started at 13, now the last 4 years have been with the trad bow. I got to where I was shooting 2 or 3" groups at 40 yards with the wheelie bow and I quit having fun.

It was time and I knew to make the switch. Now I am the only one in my hunting group (family) who reverted to traditional ways, everyone else who did hunt with compounds (brother and father) are now hunting with bow-guns (crossbows).

I was the same way. I shot 4 deer last year. 3 with a compound, one with a rifle. I bought my first trad bow in December and have shot every day almost since then. Last weekend I got a fallow doe with my longbow, and when I finally got my hands on her all the hard work paid off. I sold my compound bow earlier this week. I'm hooked for sure!! There's nothing like it.

Haha don't even get me started on crossbows lol. I have a buddy that's shooting one, and he's soooo excited to be "bowhunting". He was a non hunter all together, so I'm not being too hard on him right now, but slowly but surely I'm gonna convert him.

I killed my first buck and a ton of does with a recurve. Then switched to coumpound killed serveral deer with it over the last few years. I had it out before season this year shooting it and just wasn't enjoying myself, so I went inside dusted off my old Robertson Stykbow and haven't looked back. I've been shooting everyday and had it in the woods a few times this year and I'm much happier.

Started with trad in the 70's , switched to a compound in the early 80's  Had alot of fun and great sucess (for awhile)  It just got too easy. With all the dodads and gadgets I was shooting consitantly to 60 yards. I've always had a recurve lying around. Shot alot of carp and gar with it. Last year I went back to trad. 20 yards is my max for now.3 recurves and a longbow now. Still trying to find that 1 bow.
A couple of days ago I had 4 does come in. Closet they got were 27 yards. Could I have flung an arrow, sure. But not in my comfort zone. Did I have fun. Heck Yes! Disappointed? heck no. it just means so much more.
I'll get there eventually. Its a journey to be enjoyed

Every thing about a compound is about shooting time wise. release instead of fingers, less practice time. lower holding weight easier to aim. more speed less judgement. less invested less satisfaction. not to mention metal risers seem to get welded into my hand on cold mornings.
