Went way old school
« on: October 20, 2016, 03:28:00 PM »
Spent the morn hunting deer in moccasins, leggings ,breech clout -n- pull over shirt. Have to say was  very comfortable and soooo quiet. The gear held up great in the rain and was warm. Only thing that would have made it better would have been the deer cooperating.

What about bugs and briars? Was the breech clout fabric or brain tanned hide? Sounds like fun.

The leggings and breech clout are made of a dark gray wool from and old blanket. As for bugs I am one of the lucky ones that for whatever reason the mosquitoes don't like. Briars weren't a problem as the leggings fended them off -n- the higher ones I just moved through slowly. my mocs were soaked pretty quickly.but wool socks kept the feet quite warm. Can only imagine what the 1st person I come across is gonna think. Seeing me in garb from the 1700's with waist length dreadlocks...LOL....will get a photo up here eventually...gotta get the wife to take pics -n- I gotta figure how to put them on here

the wool is a tighter weave -n- slightly softer than my GFredAsbell pull over. no itch .if it did itch though I woulda just lined it with material from an old t-shirt. Now to test it in some colder weather.

Supposed to be a 10-15 degree drop in temps this weekend. That should let ya know where the drafts are  :scared:

It's never warm enough here to do that.....even in July........   :biglaugh:

Ken, while in NY I hunted around my place in full Ron LaClair green wool longhunter with hood and buckskin pants. Also had a back quiver, Bowie, and selfbow. I know I scared the hell out of a local as he drove down my trail at o-dark-30. I was crossing the trail in a deep fog, going to my area. I wish I could have a conversation with that guy today. Never saw him there again. Lol.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying,
"Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"
And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" Isaiah 6:8

Man, that is great!  We have to see some pics.  I'm in Ohio as well and got some crazy looks last year and I was just in grey wool pants with an Asbell pullover.  I did have a belt around my waist, not through the loops of the pants but over the pullover with a decent sized knife but nothing crazy.  If you are not head to toe camo you get the looks.  I'm laughing just thinking of the looks you'd be getting!!

Understand getting looks. Normally wear olive drab wool pants, gray Asbell anorak -n- bandanna of cotton or wool depending on the weather. Throw in my long dread locks -n- folk don't know what to think.      I also have a sash / belt wrapped around my waist over the anorak with a hawk -n- knife tucked in it.Have to agree with ya on the camo thing...folk round here seem to think the more camo the better.Yet I usually spot them right off when in the woods. So imagine the critters can also. Will get pics up eventually work has both the wife -n- I going 20 different ways at once.
