Tracks?
« on: October 22, 2016, 10:20:00 AM »
I found this walking back to truck yesterday and I don't know what made it--This was in Burke county Georgia--East Central Georgia...The first pic is just to show size comparison to my safety harness carabiner, its not real big-bout 3.5 to 4 inches.
Got any ideas?
Rick

At that size and the toes in a line like that,it would just about have to be a small bear.I only see 4 toes but there could be 2 on the left, pushed together.

without visible claw marks I'm guessing on the cat side. In ground that looks pretty soft a bear or feral dog would leave some mark. Cats move with the claws retracted.

Closest thing I can associate with it is bear. Its not cat or canine. The toe spacing and heel pad are completely wrong for them. I guess if its not man made, it would about have to be bear.

That's a bear track.

I'm always amazed when people see a track with no claw marks and automatically it's a cat track. Looks nothing like a feline track       well except Bigfoot, lol

You really haven't hunted the old fashion way until you've done it from one of these Indian houses.(The Tipi) "Glenn ST. Charles"

Most people around here think bear also with a couple who think cat. I can assure you it is not man made--We have had bear sightings in this general area--bout once every 3 or 4 years--they say they are usually young males on the prowl and that they can travel great distances looking for a girlfriend... I have also heard of Florida panthers making it this far north--I think a hunter may have killed one over towards Macon a few years back. I think it is a young bear myself but I am by no means a bear or cat expert--they just don't live/stay around here so this track was just way out of place.
Thanks for the replies,
Rick
