I hit the spot
« on: October 25, 2016, 02:09:00 PM »
It's been very slow here since opening morning and I killed a spike. There are acorns everywhere and the local herd has no real pattern. I know if I keep hunting our patch of white oaks they will eventually be there.

This morning after 2 does busted me with thermals I felt really good about finally having some deer around. A little after 10 I spot a buck working up the ridge. I glass him for a good while and he has 6 points. I was thinking only 1 buck tag left good thing he's not closer.

Then he got closer, 15 yards and I decide to take him. There is a dark patch right at the crease behind his shoulder. I concentrate right on the dark patch draw and release. I watch as my white feathers streak toward the spot!

The arrow makes a hard left turn when it should be hitting the buck. The buck jumps and takes off. I hit the spot alright, the dark patch I thought was fur was the end of branch!

Well I hit what I was aiming at and saved my last buck tag    :bigsmyl:

Still a successful hunt .

If I had hit what I was aiming at, I'd be pleased.  No harm, no foul.............    :D

I agree. I missed a fox squirrels head by an inch about an hour earlier with my Judo at about 10 yards.

It was a great morning and I get to do it all week    :D

I had a similar thing happen about 45 years ago. I was shooting at a deer that was on the other side of a barb wire fence. One strand of wire ran right through the center of the deer's chest. I KNEW I could not hit the wire but it was a great "spot" to aim at. The arrow split the twist in the wire, sheared off the blades of my wasp broadhead, and was dangling there as the deer ran off. One of the better shots I have made, just didn't result in venison.

You could never do it again if you tried to, I doubt I could.
