Idaho's biggest deer
« on: November 05, 2016, 10:17:00 PM »
Hunted all but one day this year with my recurve.
I thought I'd share a couple cell phone pics of the only deer I've seen.
The good news is I just bought a house down the road from where these bruisers were hanging out, bad news, no tag.
looks like its time to enter the draw for a tag.
I 'd like to hear how you other Idahoans have been doing this year.

I went out one day during A tag elk but haven't been out for deer yet since it's been raining up here for about a month straight. I like to get out before Thanksgiving for whitetail right near our house. Not really adventurous but we live in the sticks so...

There are two bulls in the photo and another just off camera.
Saw these on public land ( this is idaho, how could it not be public land) near spirit lake/rathdrum area. Walked right up on them
They were as surprised as I was.
The whitetails have been non existent.
I have seen some bear sign up the CDA river but that's been it this year.

By the way . Nice buck outdoordan. In my 30+ years of let's call it mixed archery, I've only taken a few (3-4) deer with my trad gear.
Three years ago I went totally traditional and haven't looked back.
 Congrats.

Thanks, I killed quite a few with compound, just got to the point it wasn't that interesting anymore.  Kind of got tired of hearing about 100+ yard shots.  I don't think I will ever go back to a compound.  I just enjoy shooting a trad bow more.

Absolutely, I would hardly shoot my compound before a season but I shoot my recurves/longbows alot more.
Now I haven't shot the wheel bow in 3 yes guess it's time to sell it.
I'll be out whitetailing it tomorrow.

Good work outdoordan! I got a cow elk with my longbow this year. First tradbow kill - I'm pretty stoked! I hunted opening and closing day of rifle mule deer - defiantly got into them, but never got a shot. I'm hoping to hunt late season archery in either 39 or 55. I'm in Ketchum, where are you?

Kesuperg - put in for that moose tag! I'm not sure what the odds are in your area, but you can't draw if you don't put in! Last year I saw more moose than elk the first week of elk hunting... It's a low percentage draw here, but I'm going to put in starting next year!
