Great post and pics Daniel!! I know you are from North Louisiana because no one from South Louisiana would have let that Snapping Turtle go.   :knothead:

That would have been a sauce-picante to die for!   :goldtooth:

Man, I wish I could have made it down for this! Sounds like a great time, and I'll bet my "Fat Boy Brownies" would've fit in well...  Looking forward to reading everyone else's accounts and hoping that next year I can make it down (if there's room).

Well I'm late getting in my part as well, but here goes. The first day Marty and I hunted by ourselves in the rain since we was early. It was pretty uneventful till we came out on the road about a mile from the camp and lo and behold here came Kip down the road. He picked us up and took us back to camp. Good timing Kip!!! The second day we all split up and Marty and Darren and I headed straight toward Rock lake. When we reached the lake we split up and made plans to meet on the back side of the lake. Marty and I went to the right and Darren went to the left. Right after we split up Marty and I ran into a drainage that was flooded from the rains we started trying to find a way around it. We hadn't gone far when we found a place that looked cross able. We were about to cross when all of a sudden we jumped a hog on the other side. I wasn't sure if it was about to cross our way or was just working the edge of the water. I thought about trying to follow it but it ran right back into a huge flooded area and kept going as far as we could hear it. I knew it was point less. We kept working our way along and ran into another drainage that looked to be impassable but we finally found a beaver dam and decided to cross knowing that we would most likely have to find a way back from the other side instead of going back the way we came.      And here's Marty crossing.

We worked our way through tall reeds and more floodwaters till we finally came to a trial on the perimeter of the wma and realized we were quite aways from the truck. What felt like several miles later we come out onto the trail about 100 yrds from the truck. There we found Darren sitting in the shade and reading a book. It was then I realized he was stuck. I couldn't just leave him there. Lol

That evening we all headed to another area and split up again. I took Darren and Marty on my 4wheeler and didn't make it far till we hit water. Darren droped off there and decided to work his way along the waters edge. I took Marty back up the Rd aways and he worked a big circle through the section above the road. I went and looked at another area but wasn't comfortable leaving my wheeler along the county road so I came back to where I droped off Marty. There was a cutover area that a guy could see pretty good. So I just walked out about 100 yrds and sat down hoping a deer or something would come along before dark.    It was a beautiful afternoon and I had a good seat on a dead fall with a big limb behind me. So I did what any self respecting hunter would do! I leaned back and gazed at the sky and enjoyed the afternoon.      I may or may not have fell asleep there for a little while.    :dunno:

The next morning Daniel and I worked a section above where we had hunted the day before. He took the left side inad I took the right. It had rained agin the night before and stalking conditions were perfect. I was slipping along quietly when I caught a little ray of sunshine!
Somewhere along there I took 2 shots at squirrels and there were perfect shots at around 20 yrds but the intended targets were no longer there when the arrow arrived!  I kept slipping along and was admiring a good rub when the wind swirled and all of a sudden a boar that was every bit of 250+ jumped out of his bed less than 20 yrds from me. Where he was bedded it was thick and was holding about 2" of water. I couldn't have seen him if I had looked straight at him. I had no idea he was there and he had no idea I was there till the wind swirled. If the wind hadn't swirled neither of us would have known the other existed.

Kind of late posting but I am just getting settled back in at work. It was a great trip. Great food and great company. I feel privileged to have been able to share a camp with these guys.
The first day Randy and I looked around close to the camp but did not see any sign in any of the places we had seen pigs last year. The second day in the morning we tried a new area and Randy and I were trying to find our way across some water when we jumped a pig on the other side of it we did not get a look at it but heard plowing through the water. That evening we went to a different area and after Randy dropped me off I made a circle and when ended up back on the road it I had enough day light to make another circle. So I went back in and went to the edge of the water and started working my way along it back to the road. I seen something looked out of place and it was a pig laying down right after I saw him he started to stand and was looking away from me. He then turned broadside and presented me with a shot. I was thinking aim low you do not want to hit them high and sure enough I aimed low and shot right under his belly.   :banghead:  That was all for that day.
The next morning Jacob and I went to the upper road and worked the entire section staying close to the water. About half way through I seen a sow and about 6 40 lb pigs with a boar following. They working their way down along the waters edge. They got about a 100 yards ahead of me and I could hear what turned out to be three boars fighting over the sow. I was starting to stalk them when they started coming back toward me. 2 of the boars chased the sow to with in 20 yards of me they were milling around pushing each other around then one boar started to mount the sow and I thought I was going to get a shot at him but she would not stay still long enough for me to get drawn. eventually they took off with giving me a shot opportunity.
That evening Randy and I went back and worked that section of woods again. In about the same area where I had seen the pig in the morning I came across a sounder of about 15 to 20 pigs spread out through the wood. I had some of them working back towards me and I thought I might get another shot opportunity but there was one pig that circled around and caught my wind and they all moved off with out giving me a shot.
We went back the next morning and worked it again and never seen any pigs.

Joe,

the latest it could happen would be the last weekend in january.  I don't know how the Lord does it, but it would appear that he plans rain every 3rd weekend in January.

Obviously, its all up to chance, but seems like the chances are pretty good of it raining next January as well! lol.

I can't wait to do it again, fellas!!!
