Wood shaft choice

Need some advice. I'm thinking about buy some wood shaft. But I never use one. Don't know which spine I should buy. My bow is thunderstick moab 50#@26, my draw length is 26.5. Using 125 gn point, which size I should use? 50-55?  Thank you.

If your bow's arrow shelf is cut a little proud of center, 50-55 should work fine.  If it's cut to center, you might want to go to 55-60. I'm assuming you're shooting a low-stretch string.  Good luck.

Not to go against Orion, but I would go one group up to a 55/60 with a tail taper down to 5/16.  Long bows like a arrow with a back taper.

At 27" bop with tapered Surewoods with 160 up front, I get perfect arrow flight out of my 53 at 26+ Robertsons and my 54 to 58 pound longbows, JD Berry and my own.   I tried some 190s, BUT NO, too much whip coming out of the bow for me.    I tend always need at least five pounds over the charts for some reason.

I have the same draw as you and my bow pulls 46# @ 26", it is a recurve but my Stewart slammer longbow also really likes 55-60 with 135 gr. broad heads.  I use sitka spruce tapered on nock end, bought from Hildebrand (sp).  Check them out.

If you cut your arrows to measure 28.5" to the back of the point (one inch longer than your draw length):
 Adjusting spine for your draw length, length of the arrow, and the Thunderstick's being cut 1/16" before center, my best guess is 50/55's. That is based on how my Thunderstick Mag shoots wood shafts. And if you cut them yourself, I would even start with the arrow at 29" to back of point, and shorten if needed.

Another option would be 55/60 spine, cut one inch longer than the 50/55's. This would allow for a stiffer spined shaft by shortening, although I find my Thunderstick to prefer a slightly softer spine.

If you don't mind, what spine are you using?  I have 27.5" draw. For my 50 to 53# bows, I am shooting 62/63 spined Sitka Spruce 28.5".
And, 65/70 @ 29" Surewoods, although with the later if I don't get full extension they will shoot stiff. Both with 160 STOS.

Get a test kit from Surewood Shafts, 50-55, 55-60 & 60-65 spine and experiment from there.

Best money you will spend.

Have a play and you will certainly find what you and the bow like.

I've used wood for years but now use Tonkin cane that come from your country. Have you thought about using these as they are very forgiving of spine.

Thank you guys! Very helpful. As I'm in China, test kits may not an option, considering the shipping cost. I think I'll go for 55-60. I like the arrow a little bit longer and heavier. Thanks.

The 55/60's should be just right for a longer and heavier arrow. My choice would be Douglas Fir from Surewood.
