Rusted Broadheads - Cleanup

After spending 4 days camped at the bottom of a coastal canyon, the rain and humidity took their toll on everything -- including my broadheads.  On day 3, I noticed that my broadheads were beginning to rust.  They are Grizzly Kodiaks.  It looks mostly surface level and just where the edge is sharpened.  I was going to just resharpen them to polish off the rust but figured I'd ask to see if anybody thinks there may be additional treatment needed (other than a thin coat of oil or wax for storage until the Spring).

This type of rust has never created much of a problem for me. Dry and clean your heads and re-sharpen them. Unless the rust is very heavy, it should not be a major issue. Afterwards, I just lightly oil them. Next year, you may need to touch them up again prior to hunting season.

I shoot them into a sand pile behind my target a few times. That takes the rust off and then I sharpen, and store.

Ha Ha , first thing that came to mind was shooting them into a sand pile.

And a good use for Vasoline is to take a small dap and smooth on after sharpening and or before storing.

sometimes a little baking soda and toothbrush can get light rust off.

Magic marker, after I sharpen my broadhead, I hit all the bright spots with a magic marker, I do it again after the season is over also. As far as removing the rust, funnest way is to shoot mole hills or stump shooting into mostly rockless ground. Dulls the heck out of them, but removes the rust! Magic marker really works and doesn't attract dirt and grime!

My Simmons have rust on them but it's surface....I just sharpen and shoot as normal...never had a problem.
