Muck boot Wetland or Woody Max for tree stand?
« on: December 20, 2016, 01:04:00 PM »
Hello all,
I've never owned any Muck boots before, and have researched the topic here, but still have a question.

I have un-insulated Lacrosse rubber boots for early season, and Mickey Mouse boots for extreme cold. But I need something kinda in the middle.

Are the Wetland or the Woody Max warm enough for tree stand hunting in the teens and 20s?

Thanks for any advice you have to offer!

Paul

Been using the Field Blazer model for years, no problem with them here in Pa. from early Oct. till mid. November, I do change socks when I get to the tree(my feet sweat) and if its really cold I'll add a  pair of those stick on toe warmers. All in all they've held up well , in fact first pair never leaked or tore but I wore them so much I wore the tread off , so I needed a new pair. Still wear the old ones around the yard after 8 years.
Now we're digging where the taters are.

I use the Woody Elite model and don't have any issues with them. Very comfortable and warm. I bought a pair that is one size to big which allows me to put on extra socks, although the boot is so well insulated that when its 40 degrees and up I don't need them.

I have the plain old chore model. I like them alot. Buy a size bigger for winter and use wool socks to insulate.

I use the Field Blazers and love them. Unless it's 20 degrees I don't use anything else! During October I just wear a pair of wet wick socks with them. Then when it starts to get snow and constant cooler weather I put a pair of wool socks over the wet wicks!

Yes, they will do the job. Follow the above suggestions and buy oversize and use a couple pairs of socks, one being wool.

Well, I broke down and ordered two pairs of the Wetlands. One in my size and another a size larger.

Only difference between the Wetlands and the Woody Max is the camo on the WM.  And $50 bucks.

Thanks for all the replies.

I use the Muck Artic pro, I am comfortable from about 40 down to below zero by using the proper socks for the weather.

I have Woody Max and Arctic Pro.  Like the Woody max better.  The Arctic Pro are a bit warmer, but also quite a bit bulkier.  Muchprefer the Woody Max for walking, and they're warm enough for sitting in all but the coldest weather.  (It doesn't get that cold in Mississippi.   :bigsmyl:   ) Wetlands might be a little and thinner than the Woody max, which would make for easier/quieter walking yet, but perhaps not as warm on stand.

Thanks for the input guys.

As far as I can tell, the only difference between Wetlands and Woody Max is that WM is camo and cost $50 more. I called Muck and they agreed.

So I'm glad to hear from Orion in Wisconsin that you can wear WM "in all but the coldest weather". That means I should be good to go in Mississippi.

I have two pair of Mucks. The Field Blazers for warm weather, and the Woody Max for colder weather. I usually start wearing the Woody's at about 25 degree's.

Just looked at the muck website and did a comparison of the two boots.

Woody Max is -40 to 60, while the Wetlands is -20 to 70 degrees.  So they are not the same boot.

Have to cancel my order and reconsider.

I also bought the Woody's one size larger to accommodate thicker socks.

Paul:  Those numbers don't mean much.  Maybe OK for comparative purposes, but I wouldn't take them literally.  If you plan to sit for any length of time, neither will keep your feet warm at minus 20 degrees fahrenheit.  Both will keep them comfortable if you're walking.

Actually, my feet tend to sweat in them if I do a fair amount of walking, regardless of the temps, but I'm seldom out in temps colder than minus 10 or so.

Either boot will likely fine at the moderate temps you're likely to experience on your stomping grounds, say 20 degrees, maybe a bit colder at times.

Thanks Orion.  I decided not to cancel my order and give the Wetlands a try.

Those numbers are probably like sleeping bags.  But I think you're right, this far south the Wetlands will probably be fine.

The Woody Max may actually be too much boot down here.  If your feet start sweating walking to your stand, you've already lost the battle.
