Please compare the Asbell style Northwoods Anorak to the Swanndri bush shirt

Are they comparable as for functionality?  I know price wise theres a big difference, but how much of a difference is there in the styles and field use?

I have both, and both are quality garments.  I like the larger hood and pockets on my Asbell anorak.  And I really like the grey, blanket weight wool of the anorak.

How does it perform in wind? Doe the Swanndri have a different weave to it or is it felted?

Not always. Sometimes you get a garment made by hand, of American wool, American labor, designed FOR BOWHUNTING, for an amazing price because of low overhead and a lack of personal greed.

I have used the Swanndri for years.  Its woven very tightly with high lanolin content which makes for very windproof and virtually sheds water.  There's a couple pieces listed on **** right now.

Um, no thanks I just saw the prices on the Swanndri. I'm sure its quality stuff but I'll stick with Asbell wool. Hand made and much more affordable than Swanndri even if I do have to take it to the tailors to have it fitted. Sometimes paying more for something does not make it better.

I own and use both. Asbell wool is my normal choice for traditional bow hunting. The price allows me to own several pieces in different weights, styles and colors. The Swanndri is a entirely different product and therefore is much more costly. In Texas and Oklahoma, where I do most of my hunting the Swanndri is far to heavy except on the coldest of days.

I have only used my swanndri a couple times hunting.  I needed a wind blocking layer under it. Good thing I had my Abell wind blocking vest in my pack those windy days!  I stick with my Asbell Anorak now when the wind kicks up and the temps drop.

I wear a wind shear vest under my Swanndri when it gets cold. My only experience with Asbell is an Anorak I ordered for my daughter this Christmas. I ordered a XXL because she likes a lot of room but I wear an XL and found it to be quite tight and not as heavy as my other wool. The daughter loves it!

Thanks guys for all your comments!  It is currently 32 degrees with a 17 mph north wind making it 22 degrees windchill, BRrrrrr!


That a wet cold down here and it was like 13-15 degrees windchill first thing this morning.

It doesn't happen often but when it does its cold!
