21st Century bow comparison
« on: January 17, 2017, 06:58:00 PM »
Hello all, just a question for you guys that have more bow experience than I. A while ago I shot a 21st Century Full Moon longbow that was 48@28. That bow was amazing to me quiet, fast and extremely accurate. I mean I shot it more accurate than any bow that I have ever shot. I know that they do not make that bow any longer so I'm told. My question is there any bow maker that makes a bow similar? Shape reflex/deflex design and grip configuration?   :dunno:

I have a 21st century constellation.  I don't shoot it anymore, just lean more the less readical, more "d" profile these days.  I think there are plenty of designs out there that mirror the extreme reflex of some of the 21st Century models.

As far as the grip; the buddy grip was amazing and I have said it many times before, the point that pushed me over the edge and sold me on my lastest bow purchase was the grip.  I bought a Cari-Bow featherhorn and found the grip to be most similar to the 21st century grip design with the thumb rest and natural pointing, repeatability that I loved about the Constellation.

You might check out Big River and Sarrels bows, both have 'clones' of the 21st Century design.  The key to the design is the long riser and short working limbs...makes for an easy to draw and fast-for-the-poundage bow, especially in the longer lengths.

I am a fan of 21st Century bows and have been told Little Crow Custom Bows are very similar.

John McDonald at Big River bows. I believe he had the original 21st Century bow forms. He got from Jim Ploen. It looks like he makes the Saturn/ Nova.

The long 24 or 25" riser combined with the reverse tapered limbs sure made a nice shooting bow.

I had the Big River that's similar to one of the 21st century bows.

I thought a guy took over building some of the 21st Century models years ago?Maybe he gave it up?I don't know.

I bumped a thread up for you Floyd to see a pic of the 21st Century by Big River.

The guy who was building 21 st Century longbows after the original bowyers stopped was Milton Callaway. Not sure if he's still at it?

Milton Callaway bought the 21st Century business from Jim and Buddy back in the 1990's and   Callaway's shop suffered a fire awhile back. I understand that apparently he lost his bow forms in the fire and doesn't appear to be making any now, or at least he's not advertising them.  Anyone else know the status?
