Great Reading - TBM Back Issues
« on: January 26, 2017, 09:55:00 AM »
Surely most everyone here is aware of Traditional Bowhunter Magazine?  Like other subscribers, because the issues come every two months, I sort of forget about them until the new issue arrives. Then it is like a holiday (I won't suggest the cliche Christmas because nothing (to me) is like Christmas).

Last summer, I "discovered" that back issues of TBM could be ordered. I'm sure most of you already know this.

I've bought 50+ and absolutely love them!  Every one is as fresh as if it was written yesterday.  The articles are terrific and some are written by people on this forum which is pretty cool!

Even the advertisements are interesting.  You can see some of the  companies that were around then are still around today. You can see some who aren't, such as Ballistics (so sad), and some that have come on board since.

I have no idea what kind of supply TB has on hand but if you like today's issue,  you'll like yesterday's as well.

I missed the first issue but had the rest of them until last year. I put them in a box and gave them to an other trad. guy that has trad. shoots at his house a few times every summer.

I enjoy shooting at his place and figured he might like them.

I have every one. But like The Whittler I am considering passing them on.  I still like reading the new issues but I only find myself looking at back issues when one of the bowyers or better know people pass away.

I picked up 25 older TBM mags on ****.  Great idea to read and pass on.  Lots of good stuff.

I have every issue as well.  Has turned into a pretty large stack.  Takes up 3-4 feet of space on my book shelf. Good reading for sure, and good source for old advertising info.  Unfortunately, I haven't done any cataloguing so it's sometimes hard to find stuff I remember reading back when.

I have every issue also. I've got mine in the binders and about once a year, usually bad winter weather, I'll pull some out and read them again.

I think if you sign up for the electronic subscription, Robin has every single article, author, and advertiser listed. It's been a long time since I looked Thur the website, that info might all be in there. If I were you I would give TBM and ask for a little help; they might have exactly what you are looking to do--done.

The old ones were much better than the new.

There is only so much that can be said about traditional bowhunting I suppose. Over the years  truly new, fresh material is hard to come by. That could be the reason the early issues were thought of as better.
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.
