New Small Game Head

I was just looking around on 3Rivers website,and ran across these. They look like they would really do the trick on the jackrabbits that I like to hunt. They don't come in very heavy weights,but if you could make them work,they are cheap.

I'd be afraid the head would break with the threads inside the arrow insert. But you are right; they are cheap.

I'm leery of them also but as a friend pointed out Cold Steel makes strong knives and they have been making knives out of these polymers for about 15yrs now.

There's a video of them somewhere shooting into all sorts of stuff with compounds, showing how strong they are.

Even if the shank did break, it's just plastic. Set a screw in it and take it out. I've had steel small game heads break off in the arrow while stumping and there was no way to get the steel out without wrecking the aluminum adapter. Stuff happens.

I think they would be good for small game, and pheasants too. At $1/head, they would be worth a look! I have not tried them, or even seen them in person, but would give them a go for squirrels, rabbits, pheasants and such. I don't think I would have the nads to try them for big game.

I shoot a lot of three hundred grain points,and they are getting bent all the time. I busted one behind the head,and the shank was left inside. I kept trying to back it out,but what I finally did was to turn the drill forward and just screwed it through since the insert was threaded on the back side. I just took the nock out and dumped it out the long end.

I just thought these heads looked neat. I had never seen them before. I would never try them on big game either.

They do look nice, I like the price, I did some grouse hunting last year with the bow and lost a few arrows on missed shots might have to look into these.

I was curious too. Seems like they woukd be a good rabbit head if you could keep them from going under the grass. Maybe a grasshopper or adder point behind it would hang it up some.

I want to try some. They look cool. I usually just buy junk broadheads from garage sales for small game. Or I use hex blunts.

Ordered some of these after reading this thread, thought i'd post up my initial impression after taking one out stumping this aft.

125 gr. Cheap Shot out of a 40# recurve. First shot at a fairly rotted piece of 1/2" plywood shattered it. And wouldn't you know it, the only part left in the shaft is the very bottom of the threads.

Think it's kind of comical how the back of the package shows a compound hunter leaning over a water buffalo, with the description reading "...will quickly and humanely dispatch even big game fast!"

Probably a good rabbit head, which is what i'll use the remainder for, but don't expect them to survive a miss in anything but a swamp.

Thanks for the update there Doug. They don't sound very tough at all. If I miss where I'm at they are normally in the grass or skipping across the dirt. I would like to give them a try,and still might,but I have so many cheap broadheads.

I got a pack of the 125s just to give them a try. I'm really excited about them for small game! The 125s are huge compared to other broadheads.
