Black widow
« on: February 06, 2017, 11:18:00 AM »
Hi y'all. I want to buy a new target only bow from black widow. I love the low wrist grips I can get with them.  I'm trying to decide between the PMA and the PSA. I pull just over 28" and will be using this just for targets. all my other bows are 47# and up. So I'm not sure how low I can go and still have enough cast? Anyone shoot these models in low weight? How you like them? I just talked to Roger  Fulton on the phone and he suggested 40#. I've shot both models a ton just can't see to much difference.  My predator and bob lee are both great bows but I like the heavy weight of the widows that's why I'm choosing them. Thanks for any advice you target shooters have. Also I don't know if it matters but I shoot instinctively only.

So how many of us know more about Black Widow bows than Roger does. The man is pure gold.

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

If you shoot instinctively, I would go with the PSA, as that is what it was designed for.  I would also go for the 62" length, although that is a bit on the long side for a 28" draw, according to their specs, because a longer length will be a tad more accurate for a target bow.  You could even consider a 64" PMA, but I think the 62" PSA is a good compromise between performance and stability.  40# is a good weight for a target bow for someone used to pulling 47#.  You have to be able to pull a target bow with good form after a hundred shots, unlike a hunting bow where really only one shot counts (albeit a shot when you may be cold and cramped, so I wouldn't overdo it there either).

For target only, I'd go with a 64" PMA, especially if you're pulling over 28".  Stability and smoothness will be best at that length.

I shoot instinctive as well, with both the bows in my signature.

I have both but not a target guy, I agree the PMA would work better. Here is 60" PMA and PSA [/IMG]
