Newer Predator Camo and UV??
« on: March 10, 2017, 12:57:00 PM »
Anyone experience issues with the newer Predator camo and getting spotted (UV)??  I had great success over the years with the old cotton Predator stuff.  The new poly-blends, seem to leave me getting spotted more by deer.  I had to DRENCH it in the UV killer to avoid that happening.  Not sure I am liking that I will have to do that every time I wash it.

Is it the shine of the material or the UV?

I looked at the Predator poly-blend stuff and too me it was very shiney.

Did you try washing it in baking soda?

I believe it was the UV.  I have gotten away with crazy movement in the past with cotton Predator and ASAT.  These new poly/blends just don't appear as stealthy to me.  Perhaps it's time to go back to wool??

I have used DDW to wash the past few years and Scent Shield for years before.  I have also used the Atsko Sports Wash, never tried baking soda though.

I'd be curious also. Just got a new camp shirt in the all poly spring green and it sure looks shiny.  Got it more to knock around in and maybe turkeys.

I wear new poly blend predator, I have snuck up on multiple deer in a meadow with no cover except two barren trees and the wind in my face.

I've also had cow elk walk into me while deer hunting. I had a doe walk straight at me to about 5 yards then spooked on my draw.

Last deer season I was walking across my fields and a group of turkeys were walking my way. I kneeled in open field with my bow and a big hen came right at me, looked at me and carried on. She was a tasty bird....

I do however have a slight problem with the shining of it. But nothing that walking through thick brush can't fix.

I sometimes find old stock of the spring green available. I get on that stuff quick, although the green deception has never failed me.

I switched over a couple new items this past season replacing a couple worn out items and did not have any issue. and have not heard any concerns from any one else yet.

I do wash new items about three times before use. I use the Atsko Sport wash

Mine is about a year and a half old. I use the heavier fleece Predator Grey. Its working very well, and ive not had any wierd problems of deer picking me off when I felt they shouldn't have. Very little will conceal a wrong movement on our part though. Its camo, not magic! Lol!

I remember reading over a time of many years that many (most?) commercial dyes are high in UV agents. I believe that my military surplus camo, which is UV free)  is superior to the commercial camo in many instances. However, I agree with the guys who state that movement is probably the biggest factor in getting busted.

I too have wondered about a few of the newer polyester materials that both Predator and even ASATcamo uses.  Both have a "sheen" that I do not like.  The fleece, wool, and cotton in both Pred and ASAT do not have this sheen. As far as movement- no doubt its a big deal- but that stated I have got away with a BUNCH of slow movement using ASAT for almost 30 years.  Turkeys is the big test, and I have stalked A LOT of them.
