Arrow Selection for new Bow
« on: March 21, 2017, 03:14:00 PM »
First off, Hello! First post, I have been shooting recurves on and off most of my life. I just purchased a new bow from Bob Morrison. My draw length is 28.5 and the bow's limbs I believe are 53# at 28". My other recurve is  bear Super Kodiak 60#. I have been shooting gold tip traditional arrows I want to say 350's. I need new arrows, is there a handy dandy chart for poundage vs spine? Also what other recommendations do you all have for arrows? Do most of you shoot carbons? Who are some other reputable arrow makers? Wood is not out of the question either.
Thanks.

Hi Yumi!  I use Gold Tips for my Daala which is 55@28 but have found that they don't hold up under the power of my Thunder Child which is 60@28. For the TC I use Carbon Express Heritage 350's. The CE shafts are almost impossible to destroy, much tougher that the Gold Tips. The CE's are also a little heavier, I like that for the overall weight.
I am not putting down the GT's, this has just been my experience.
JMHO!  :-)

Try your arrows that your shooting.  They should be real close.  The Morrison is a higher performance bow then the Kodiak so the difference in weight should be overcome.

Try the GTs.

I'd recommend gold tips too. 500 spine would be a good start. The 3555s. Also there are  a few great wood arrows builder on here that sell them. Look at the sponsor list and welcome

I've got a 55# '66 Kodiak.  With a Dacron string, my CX Wolverine 350s at 31" and a 250 gr head fly great.  Unless your arrows are cut down a good bit, you should be able to get them tuned by working with your point weight.

Welcome to the Gang!

I would think a .400 or .340 spine shaft would work depending on how much you want it to weigh.

Only personal tuning will tell you for sure what will be the perfect arrow though.

Thanks! Is there a sticky post on the proper way to tune your arrows?
