Black Eagle Arrows.

Hello everyone!

I am new to this forum and new to traditional archery. I picked up a recurve bow from a bowyer out of Vermont Bob Macilvane. Now I am in need of arrows to go with it.

I am looking at the Black Eagle Vintage arrows and I was wondering what the general thoughts on those arrows are.

My bow is 53# @ 28'' and I am looking at running a heavier broadhead/field point on them for more FOC. According to Black Eagles chart I would need a 400 spine arrow if I used a 200 grain head and cut the arrows at 27.5 inches like the bow shop reccomended. Does that sound right to you?

This bow will be used for hunting deer, bear, and turkeys. As well as a way to relieve stress from the work day.

I am looking forward to learning a new skill and embracing the ups and downs it provides me.

They may work for you, I would think a 500 spine may also work

X3 except I would cut them down slowly as you bare shaft tune.

I bought a pack of the test shafts from 3 Rivers. I found the 600 with 200-250 up front worked best. I fletched it up and it grouped with my woodies! It actually flew better! Then I shot it with a woodie and broke it. Planning on buying two dozen! But according to the chart I need a 500 but a 500 would have needed about 300 up front!

Your bows amount of center shot will make a difference. But at 27.5" 500 spine may work.

How do you plan on tuning your arrows as the charts are not always right for everyone?

I'm running a 400 with 200gr up front cut 30.75" shooting about 60lbs. I'd think the 500s would be a better fit for you. BTW you wont be disappoint with the Black Eagels! I love mine!

I was planning on getting field tip test kit and change out the weight to find what weight flew best for me.

At this point I do not feel I have enough of a consistent release to use the trimming method of tuning or the bare shaft tune.

I was hoping to get something close and work of my form to a point where I felt confident to properly tune my arrows.

Just to give a reference point. I shoot a Dryad Orion with the Non ACS Longbow limbs. 51@28. I draw 29. I am using the .400 vintage shafts with a 50grn brass insert and 175 grain heads. The arrows are cut to 30 1/4 inches.
