Snakeskins over brown glass...any photos?
« on: March 29, 2017, 10:27:00 PM »
I'm thinking about putting skins on my Tall Tines limbs that are solid brown glass just to help break up the outline of them some. Anyone have photos of various skins over brown glass?

I put copperhead skins on brown glass and they turned out silver and black. Looks neat, but not exactly what I wanted. Probably should have painted the limbs white prior to the installation.

The most vivid copperheads I have seen are on osage. I am sure there are some photos of that on trad gang. Also I once had a Morrison with copperheads over bamboo. It was nice and bright. Can't find any photos of it to offer. Been wondering the same thing about brown glass and rattlers. My 59  Kodiak would look nice with skins. Our rattlers vary in color a lot. Getting two matching snakes is the hard part. The black one in the first photo was quite a specimen. I moved him off the road so he is still out there. Had his twin been nearby maybe he would be on my bow now. The more yellow snake I photographed yesterday would benefit from light wood underneath. I guess I just need to get a few in the freezer until I get a match. We are allowed 2 per year of legal length.

Same skin on all three bows, left natural bamboo or light tan. Middle over grey stained hickory, right reddish stain.

Gotta love those Pennsylvania rattlers! I saw one once in potter county that was velvety black all the way up to the Las 4 or 6 inches, which was neon chartreuse green! Two of those would make some interesting limbs!

No photo but I wasted a killer set of Copperhead skins on an Ironwood BW longbow which had brown bamboo, I was very disappointed. Yew is the best color to show off Copperhead. I would probably paint the limbs with a suitable color before skinning.
Lefties are the only ones who hold the bow in the right hand.
