Was a great day here to ruin a few arrows .
What a wonderful day and my back was behaving as well .
My white Jack Russell even got all mud splatered .
Yep , was a good day .

My personal opinion, if you are regularly breaking them, then you are picking the wrong targets, now losing them is a different story!

Stumpin's a good way to pass the time.  Broke one today myself.  Shot at a tuft of a shrub, and my arrow went right through it, as I expected it to.  Saw my arrow sticking out of the ground on the other side, and I thought, "Great! Don't have to look for that one!"  But when I pulled my arrow out of the ground, I found that the tip was pushed back into the shaft, mushrooming the shaft.  What I didn't see was a big ol' rock just beneath the surface.

Oh well, I'd much rather break one than lose one.  When it's broken, it's done for other than what I can salvage off the old arrow.  When it's lost, it's the start of a half hour search that day, followed by repeat visits if it seems like the arrow should be somewhere I should be able to find it.

Just the other day, I shot an arrow that wasn't there when I went to look for it.  Fortunately, my friend noticed when I shot it that it ricocheted way off to the side, further than you would expect it to, and so we were able to find it.  I'll bet most of the arrows I lose are for that reason.  If they're within 10 feet of where I shot them, I generally find them, even if I have to drag the grass with an arrow finder gadget I carry with me.

I took 4 of my custom arrows with up north last summer to stump with. I broke all 4 eventually. But that's part of the game of stumpin'!

Yeah , what gets me is the log that has moss all over it and the end that is exposed looks all punked out .
And when you hit it ,it's as hard as a rock .
I get  sucked by that one once in awhile .

I've broken arrows on stumps that looked really soft but turned out to be super hard. It's frustrating. I started using judos, which has pretty much eliminated the ricochet problem.

I remember one time that I was nailing these dark clumps of grass out in our yard. Didn't realize until later that I was nailing dog bombs...

X2,   Not often do I break one and can't remember the last time I did. Since getting away from cedar arrows and shooting better wood arrows made a huge difference to.

The boys and I did some shooting yesterday.  Started out on the block working on form. Oldest was having some issues with target panic and we've been using a clicker to work thru it.  At the end, I asked him to let me shoot a group with his bow.  Robin Hooded the first two, guess I owe him an arrow. :)
We chased a tennis ball around the yard for awhile after that.  Nothing broken during that though.
Plan to hit the woods stumpin' this afternoon.

Not all good targets are soft.  Breakage is acceptable . . . as long as it dies when hitting what you aimed at.

My stumping arrows are the same as my deer hunting arrows.  I'd rather make more than shoot junk arrows - even at stumps.

Oddly I've had direct hits on living trees and 2x4s while 3-D shooting and never broke one. A rock or steel support is a different story.
