Drake on the way
« on: April 24, 2017, 08:31:00 AM »
Ever since I sold my last Drake to Tippit (and he did a beautiful refinish job on it) I have been looking for another. Particularly a longer Drake.
I have a 64-66" on the way. Iv heard people call the longer bows "fire drakes", is this right ?

I have no exactl length or weight, it'll have to see when it gets here, but I am excited..

Can any Drake collectors guess on age ?

From the fifties,or very early 60s, of course. Some have tried to date them from the serial numbers, but I see no clues in that.  Yes, Firedrake is the general handle for all Drakes over 54".  54" were Hunter Flights.  Shark and Champion were also names of Firedrake models, but I've not seen a definitive description of how any of those were different.  I've had 30-40 Firedrakes and do love the way they shoot....although they are not incredibly quick. 64" is an uncommon length, even more so than 66". 62" bows seem to have only been made in later years, but they are also fine shooters. Those are my preferred lengths. The majority of Firedrakes were 68 inches and longer.

I love the grip on the bow you pictured.  Very typical Firedrake.
