just wondering ??
« on: June 25, 2017, 07:30:00 PM »
I shoot right handed, my arrows are fletched with left wing feathers. I shoot into a bag target and also have a 3d deer. My points are constantly coming loose and really don't want to glue them into the insert. If I switched to right wing feathers would the spin of the arrow keep the points tighter going into my targets.

Put a little string wax on the threads of the head. That should keep them in place.

Bees wax also works.

Or a couple wraps of Teflon tape on the treads then tighten with a pliers.

I put a little blue threadlocker (e.g. Loctite) on the threads, and they never come loose. I can remove them when I want to, but they never come loose on their own.

Don't use super glue.  Friend of mine found that his aluminum arrows are still convertapoints. He just has to take the whole mess out of his shafts to go to broadheads or target points, he glued them both, but it works.

To answer your question, yes, right wing feathers would spin the arrow clockwise and tighten the screw in points.  Left wing feathers rotate the arrow counter clockwise and loosen screw in points.  Of course, if you use wood arrows and glue on points, it makes no difference.

Easy fix, give them a twist to the right before you pull them. And they can come loose with right wing also.

I used to have this problem as well, but haven't had an issue since I started putting string wax on the threads.

Though this is true as far as flight, the tips will still come loose with right wing too.   35 years of right wing fletching and counting...

You should be checking your arrow for damage after you pull it from a target... Check again before you shoot it... Just Sayin'... It's A Good Habit...
