New (to me) BigJim Buffalo
« on: July 13, 2017, 10:52:00 PM »
So for graduation this year, my parents said that they would either buy me a phone and computer or a new bow. I figured I would use the bow a lot more than the computer. I have always wanted a short longbow and when I saw this it was exactly what I was looking for. I need to tune some arrows to it, but it still shoots really well. It's 60" and 59@28.
I was just curious about where to start as far as brace height on a bow this short? I was also curious about what type of wood the bow is. I sent Big Jim an email with the bow number to see if he knew, but have not heard back yet.

Gorgeous bow! I have a 62" buffalo bow 48"@28". Big Jim recommends between 7 1/4" to 7 3/4". I have found I like mine at 7 5/8", but that can vary based off shooting styles and preferences. Big Jim has a wealth of knowledge for tuning information. I also recommend his Blem arrows. Its all I have shot for years.

Thanks guys. I have never heard of marble wood, but after looking it up, I think that's what it is. I'll play around with the brace height. The string that came with it only braces it to 6 1/4.

That is all Marblewood.  7-7 3/4 will do you right.  Your string either needs more twists or is too long.  Grab a custom string from Tenring or Champion and you'll be very happy.

Thanks guys. I put a different string on it and 7 5/8 seemed to work well.
I've never seen a computer or phone shoot an arrow as fast as this bow does, so I'm happy with my choice.    :D

The only downside is that whoever owned this bow before must have stored it near some perfume or something because it smells really sweet. Any idea how to get that out?

Can't see your pics but it sounds like a good one. I agree with previous posters. Try twisting the string to shorten it but also go ahead and order one or 2 more. It's good to have back up.
Relax,

You'll live longer!
