Put a hit on a big fat doe a while ago. Broadside hit just a bit back, should have got liver and maybe some lung. She bucks then runs maybe 20 yds to the edge of a cornfield and stands, tail between her legs like it was a hard hit. I hear something back where she originally came from and see a small buck. Turn my attention back to her and have trouble locating her, then see her coming back towards me. I "reload", wait for an opening for a finishing shot, get it, take the shot........dont know where it went. She bolts a few yards.....comes back.....I try another finishing shot(by this time my nerves are shot)....unsure of that one too, sounded like it smacked wood or bone. Now I'm coming unglued at this time because she wasnt acting right for a hit deer IMO. Between shots one and two I was expecting her to drop anytime by her initial body language. Shots two and three she acted totally ok and I could see no signs of a hit......then it hits me, could I have been shooting at a different doe? Unlikely but possible I suppose. I guess I'll know more tomorrow when I go back to take a closer look. I took a very quick glimps around this evening and didnt see arrows or blood so I backed out to give her time. Anyone up for an all nite poker game? Dont think I'll sleep much tonight.
