Best Quiver for Take Down Longbow
« on: July 21, 2017, 01:40:00 PM »
Been wanting a Black Canyon Longbow for a couple of years. Saw one at RMSG and pulled the trigger. Have always used quiver attached to inserts in my recurves. What are your suggestions for this longbow. Primary use is hunting elk in the mountains so need something solid and quiet. On recurves liked 5 arrows, but could go down to four I suppose. Appreciate your help.

A limb bolt quiver would be my suggestion.  I have never PERSONALLY had much luck with strap on quivers.  Many others love them, but I feel a limb bolt quiver is more solid.  YMMV.

I have two EFA ( eagle flight archery) quivers 1 on my curve ,1 on my HH Wesley special longbow. Both strap on.
Very light, quiet, solid. Damn nice looking too.
If I were you I definitely give them a look.

Kanwin,
The adjustable Great Northern strap-on in the kick back version places the arrows further back behind the lower limb and helps improve the balance. I can't say I have tried ALL the other bow quivers, but I can say I don't need to. GREAT quiver!
I had a really good group going... until I shot the second arrow.

My best bows are the ones someone else didn't want.

I have used Great Northern, Kanati, Eagle's Flight, Selway (slide-ons and quick detach), and Thunderhorn strap on limb models.

I also used Great Northern limb bolt quivers, as well as an old Delta for riser inserts.

What I have learned is they all have their positives and negatives.  For me - the absolute best attachement system and the one that has offered absolutely ZERO effect on tuning of the bow is the Eagles Flight quivers.  I believe Don's strap on system is the best on the market.

Having said that, I use Great Northern strap-on quivers on the majority of my bows because of their versatility and I like to carry 5 arrows.

Once they introduced the extreme kick-back version...it's close to a perfect quiver.

So my recommendation is GN if you like 5 arrows and like the look of them okay.  The Eagle's Flight quivers are really great looking quivers and the strap-on system is fantastic.  My only complaint is they are a very small profile and I like 4-fletch arrows.  Aligning broadheads in the hood AND getting fletch clearance with such a small profile can be a challenge.

Not familiar with that bow, but I've found the Selway limb bolt quiver to be the most solid of any bow quiver, equal to the bow quivers that bolt/screw on the side of the bow. Selway makes those as well.

Any strap on quiver has some give to it.  Not necessarily a bad thing.  Doesn't really affect anything, but I want my quivers to be rock solid.  A limb bolt or side bolt is the only attachment system that will provide that.

Oops.  Have to add that a slip on bow quiver, such as a Selway that slips over the limbs, also provides a rock solid attachment.

Awesome feed back. Appreciate you gentlemen. Snuck home at noon to put some arrows through the Black Canyon, good chance it may replace the recurve in my September elk hunt.

I have used a few different ones, they all worked well. Thunderhorn Boa, Eagle flight, were both good.

I currently have a Great Northern Strap on (Probably the most adaptable to any bow) and the Great Northern quick detach that mounts under the limb bolts. I like this o e because it acts as a limb saver also.

You didn't say what type of bow you have. If its a limb bolt I love the Great Northern QD. That way you can take the quiver off at any time. This is handy for casing or switching the quiver from bow to bow in seconds. Look them up and you will see the benefits. I also like the EFA strap on for non limb bolt bows, but as said earlier they are small and it can be hard to get good fletch clearance.

I build a 3 arrow 2 blade broadhead or fieldtip quiver that only weighs around 7 oz!

I have these available on my website with or without embossing.

Here's a picture of one I built with the Oklahoma Bowhunter logo embossed on it.

I'll have the nonembossed models available at ETAR next weekend.

I prefer the Great Northern strap on for my take down's. The thunderhorn boa would be my second choice. I shoot a Simmons head so I prefer the bigger hood on the Great Northern.

Tried them all it seems! For three pc. I like limb bolt quivers. For one pc ,nothing  but selway slide on, efa close second. I have tried 3 different strap on quivers, just not solid enough for me
