Tuning question

I'm shooting my Kwyk Styk which is 47@28 and my draw is about 26.5. Shooting gold tip trad .500's cut to 28.25" with a 2" aluminum footing and 175 grn point with standard insert. Seems to paper tune well other than a little nock high but I believe that is just my form. The arrows seem to fly straight out of the bow but don't always go where I'm looking. Sometimes I'll shoot 3 or 4 arrows right on the money and then one will impact 8" or so off target. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong in tuning or if the arrows might be too stiff. I had a bw plv at 50@28 and it shot the same arrow with a 250 grn point and put bullet holes through paper. Never seemed to have the flyers either. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

When I have a "flier" it is normally my fault...break down in form.      

Once in a while you will get a "bad" arrow.  You could rule that out easy enough.  If the flier is always the same arrow it might have something going on with it.

I would say stiff. Those .500 spine surprise me how stiff they got when cut down. I was using 300 up front with about 50@28. I started leaving mine full length,and found them much easier to tune.

Yeah, I'm surprised they don't show stiff as well.

Just because they shoot great through paper does not always mean they will impact where you are looking. I tune my arrows now based on how well they fly to the target and where they impact in reference to my aiming point.

Even when I bareshaft tuned they flew good and I was surprised I was able to get them to fly straight also. Think I might try some .600 spine and see if I can get them shooting better.

i found when cutting carbons there was a real critical length. they would start weak and i would trim, trim, trim to get them flying well. But if i took off 1/2in too much they would go stiff and no reasonable extra point weight would bring them back. is it always the same arrow that flys funny for you?

If they paper tune fine and you put three to four right on the money and then have an occasional flier, It's most likely a form issue.

I'm hoping that's the case but just not used to Shooting as bad as I have been lately. Going to do some further investigation to see if I can figure out what's going on

Ok, so your bow is 47#@28" and your draw is 26.5". You are getting 43-44# at best, so I would say those .500s are stiff - especially cut to 28.5". I shoot .500s out of 55-60#.

Nick, is you Kwyk styk have static or regular recurve limbs? I have static limbs on mine and it likes a stiff arrow.

Check and see if it's the same arrow.

I'm gonna get some .600's and give them a try and see what I come up with. I had the .500's already and wanted to give them a go before I bought new shafts but gonna get a few and try them. Thanks
