I was in a ground blind and drew on this guy yesterday but spooked him. I moved to another spot about 15 yards from my other blind but this time inside the fawning branches at the base of a grand Fir tree with a big hole in the front to shoot out of. He came back around today and got him less than 10 yards away. He dropped where I shot him. I got him right behind his left shoulder where I was aiming. Looks like the arrow went through his lung and went up to severe his Spinal cord. He expired shortly after. Same exact thing happened two years ago with my last buck. Combo heart shot and Spinal cord. Both present and past bucks fell with no use of their rear legs, expiring shortly after. No tracking!
Prior to him coming by, a scrawney doe with a booner of a rutting buck with a narrow and tall light chocolate colored rack, almost Mule Deer like it was so unique. A big bodied buck. I wasn't ready for him because I thought the footsteps behind her were youngins like I had seen recently. Should have been ready!!! I drew on him but they were very alert from the get go and with the both of them, 10-15 yards away, the darn near inaudible sound of me drawing back was noticed by them and they lightly trotted off but not too spooked.
Used an Abowyer Brown Bear and Black Eagle Deep Impact which you can see broke.
