Glove recomendation?
« on: November 27, 2017, 01:35:00 PM »
I have arthritis and find that in cold weather my hands have reached a point where they get xtremely painful.  I've been using a set of wool gloves with the fingertip cutouts and a flip over mites piece.  That wany I can still wear my shooting glove under them.  This setup has worked up til now.  Now I find my hands hurt for hours after a morning on stand.  Does anyone have any recommendations for keeping hands warm but still able to shoot?

I use a hand muff. It straps around my waist and is easy to get my hand in and out of as needed. On really cold days, I'll put some chemical hand warmers inside and it works great.

Not a glove out there that keeps my hands warm once it really gets cold - so I use the hot hands chemical hand warmers....they work for me. Hope this helps

Similar to the two posts above... I either wear my vert warmest mittens (sometimes with handwarmers inside) or just put large handwarmers in my vest pockets, and keepmy hands in there unless shooting ( I still carry gloves or mitts if I'm roving).

A note on handwarmers: there's the regular two in a package kind, but I usually use the "hand-body warmers"... twice as big, and last three times as long.

Good tip is that these warmers last for hours. If onlu out for a short while, put them in a small ziploc bag and squeeze out most of the air - they'll still be good for another couple of sessions.

I only use gloves to and from a stand. While there, I use a muff with a pair of heat packs. They stay really warm in there.

Yep hand muff for me as well.  I wear no gloves or very thin ones all season long.  I will say though that just like most gear in our sport....not all hand muffs are created equal.  I had a cheap one for years and didn't realize what I was missing until I bought a good one....Wow, what a difference. I don't even use the chemical heat packs in the muff most of the time bc it is unnecessary until it gets really really cold.  The MT050 muff from Cabelas is the cat's meow!
Take care,
Jason

I wear gloves with the fingers cut out as well but once it gets below 40 degrees I get out the chemical hand warmers for my pockets to keep those finger tips toasty. I keep a couple of bulk packs in my truck at all times. I'll use the body warmers on my loser back if I'm on stand. They really do a nice job.

I use an American Leathers glove and one of two camo gloves.  Early season I have a midweight pair from the camo section at WalMart that I cut the tips off of.  When it gets good and cold I have a set of fingerless flip back mits from WalMart and I put HotHands into the flip back part as needed when it's really cold.

Thanks for the suggestions.  They reminded me that I have a hand muff around here somewhere, just need to find it.

Back when I was in my mountains, I would wear any thin synthetic camo hunting gloves you can find anywhere (I have under armor); my shooting glove on the top of that; then half-fingers woolen gloves with flip over mitten on the top. I found that combo effective at 15F. For me the thin synthetic glove underneath makes the difference, but admittedly, it needs to get close to 32F for my naked fingers to feel cold.
Hope it helps.
