String material have come a long way since then!
For non FF bows, or to use for loop padding, B-55 is the best choice.
For "FF" type materials, you have two basic types: 100% HMPE, or HMPE/Vectran blends. The 100% HMPE materials are a tad more durable, the blends are most stable in varying temps...especially high temps. 'Course there are variables like strand count, draw length, draw weight, etc. that come into play.
My current favorite is BCY-X. It's a blend of 17% Vectran and 83% SK90 Dyneema. I should mention though, since SK90 Dyneema has been discontinued by the manufacturer (DSM), it will be re-formulated to incorporate SK99 in the near future. There's still a good big of the original available, and when it changes the shooting characteristics should be the same.
If you want a 100% Dyneema product, Mercury incorporates the highest grade available (SK99).
Servings have come a long way too--different materials for different applications. Halo is the slickest and most durable, Power Grip holds great and is still very durable, and 62XS is in-between. 3D is excellent for end loops, and there's also Angel Majesty that some prefer.
If you want, give me a holler or if you make it down towards Fulton call and you can come by my shop. I generally have lots of material on hand, and at deals you won't find anywhere else.
