Wingnutters on rivercane?

Has anyone tried wingnutters out of rivercane? If you did how did you do it and can you post pics...thank you

I've not, but you could foreshaft them and screw the nut onto the foresaft. Use hardwood dowel or hickory for the foreshaft.

I've done it using bamboo. Simply plugged the front end using the method found on Ferret's site, tapered it like a normal shaft, and screwed/glued the wingnut upon the taper. Works great...

Thanks for the replies guys both great ideas.  I have about 4 dozen cane shafts and am trying to come up with ideas for arrows.  

Ferret, do you ever use a fletching jig on your cane arrows and if so how did it work?  I tried using the straight pin method but found sticking the pin in the cane was incredibly frustrating..You should have seen my fingers and work table after I gave up!!!My wife gasped and started laughing.  Needless to say I ruined a few feathers that day.

Yes I use my Jo Jan mutifletcher and fletch tape. Works great. Then I sinew wrap the leading edge of the feathers.

I can see where sticking a pin in them could be a problem   :biglaugh:

Wingnutters are just 1/4 or 5/16" wingnuts used as cheap (effective) small game heads. Work really well, especially if you sharpen 'em...
