The statue
« on: November 07, 2020, 12:29:46 PM »
It never ceases to amaze me how a buck can stand motionless for such a very long time.
Just yesterday a small 8 point came into my shooting lane at about 12 yards and was straight head on to me.
I desided I would take this one and when I sat up for better posture, my seat made a very slight pop.
He looked me right in the eyes and froze.
Ok, so I'm not going to even try and get ahold of my bow until he turns and doesn't  pay attention to me.
Alright, it's going on about 15 minutes and he doesn't even blink. But he does occasionally glance just slightly off my spot as if he sees something behind me.
The move is like molasses back and forth between me and wats behind me.
Now he hasn't looked any other direction and no stomping or any sound.
Then he picked up one of his front legs and I figured he was going to stomp. But he just held the leg up for about a minute.
Then the he slowly put his foot back on the ground.
Stood motionless for about another minute and and then spit a big mouth full of slobber in my direction and just slowly walked away unexcited and was gone.
I have never in all my years hunting seen a deer spit.
It was like a Camel or Lama.
Not at all like a blow or grunt.
Have you ever witnessed a deer spit before?

Dale,
I’ve seen them do some of the strangest things and have witnessed the “Standing Stare” without moving with the leg lift But never witnessed a spit as mentioned.
I’m laughing as my mind wonders if it was a “Phhhh” ! I ain’t scared of no hunter lol.
Just being in the woods watching as creatures do their daily routine simply amazes me .
When you think all has been learned something new happens and we wonder why we never noticed it before.
He knew something moved or caught his eye and you being still with him slowly moving along after that long wait probably meant things were safe ?
