Arrows High and Left

I'm at the point of pulling what little hair I have out.  I'm shooting Beman ICS Hunter 400, 31 inch, vanes, with a 125 grain 3 blade Snuffer broadhead and an insert weight of 50 grains for a total arrow weight of around 500 grains.  They shoot great out of my Bob Lee 62 inch 51@28 lbs.  I draw 29.5 inches.  Unfortunately I've about decided I'm just overbowed with the Bob Lee.  When I try to shoot that same shaft out of a ChekMate Hunter II 60 inch, 47@28, my arrows fly high and left with sort of a barrel roll.  I'm right handed and using a Hoyt stick on rest on the bows in order to shoot vanes.  Any suggestions?

Well, you ussually can't shoot the same arrow out of differant poundage bows, or even differant bows period.  Also the vanes might not be clearing.  Maybe you need a heavier head and go to feathers.

go with a 145+ grain head and lose the vanes go to feathers.  I dont mean to disagree with carlr2s but you should be able to shoot the same arrow from that bow.  I shoot 1 arrow from 5 different bows, ranging from 40 -60 pounds...You Just need to tune the bow for the arrow, takes some time but it will work.

What I meant by differant arrow, I meant not only shaft but point weight and fletching.  We said exactly the same thing.

The shaft is way too stiff.  You will need a ridiculously heavy point to tune that shaft.

I've got some Super Carbon Hunter 45-60 shafts, would they be spined better for this bow? I couldn't figure out if I was over or under spined.  I'll play with head weights to see what I can get to happen.  Of course the arrows shoot great with field points, they just aren't stabalizing the broadheads.  I'll keep the feathers in mind and try them as I already have a few of these shafts with feathers on them from when I tried the bows shooting off the shelf.  I just really prefer to shoot vanes when possible because of the maintenance associated with feathers.  Any additional suggestions are appreciated.

oug, I was have the same problems with my aluminums, went to a 200gr. head problems went away but I would think the vanes are also a culprit. But I shoot alot more weight 72# there abouts, banana feather will get the broadheads under control.

Since the problem exists only with broadheads the problem is probably with the fletching.  A broadhead tries to act as a steering force at the front of the arrow.  How long are your vanes?  Like everybody else, I'd suggest going to feathers.  Buy some that are at least 5".  Also, helical fletching will tend to stabilize an arrow better.  Try that if you aren't already doing so.

Arrows too stiff...change to feathers or an elevated rest, but a shaft change is in order, as well.  

Go down a size and play with some heavier points.

Over the last few months when the weather has permitted I've been messing with this.  I went to a 5" right wing parabolic feather.  I tried the Super Carbons and also some Beman ICS Hunter 500 shafts.  I use threaded rod in my inserts to get the arrow weight to 9 grains per pound.  This adds about 79 grains to the Beman 500 shafts.  I'm shooting 3 bladed 125 grain Snuffers and Razor Caps.  So I would think I'm pushing the same weight on the front as a 200 grain head.  I get better arrow flight but I still get the occasional arrow with some barrel roll.  I've tried my old bow and arrow set up and also get the barrel roll there so I'm wondering if something has happen to my form?  What's weird is I can pick up the Bob Lee and shoot arrows like darts all day long, I've never seen one barrel roll out of it.  I have the brace height of the Chek Mate at 7 3/4.  I thought I had it fixed with the Beman 500 shafts but then I got some arrows the other afternoon that barrel rolled left on me.  I'm almost whiped at this point, any suggestions?

This mystery is at least partially solved.  I haven't gone back to try vanes again but I've got feathers flying great finally.  A BIG Thanks to Troy at Sticks and Feathers, I've been getting my shafts from him and he has helped me with several conversations to diagnose this issue.  This one ended up being a brain cramp on my part.  I changed the nock point when I tried shooting 3 under for awhile.  Evidently months later when I changed it back I got the strange notion of 3/8 above the top of the arrow instead of 3/8 above the bottom of the arrow.  So my nock point was really 5/8 and I shoot split finger.  Just as Troy had predicted, the high nock point was causing my shafts to behave stiffer than they really were and I was getting the barrel roll left.  I reset the nock to 3/8 above the rest and the Super Carbon 45-60 arrows with feathers flew great.  What a relief to have arrows flying straight and true.  Now it's time for some fine tuning for turkey season.
