"Shooting Out" my rest
« on: February 12, 2007, 11:31:00 AM »
I just put a new Bear Hair Rest and Plate on my bow. It has the thin leather side plate and carpet style arrow rest.

The rest shows cosiderable wear down to the shelf were the fletching has worn a groove into the carpet rest. As a result one of the fletchngs on my arrows is showing considerably more wear than the others.

I shoot 3 under and have my knock 1/8th above horizontal/90.

The wear is on the outside edge of the shelf away from the side plate.

Is this normal wear or should I be making adjustments and is so what do you suggest.

Thank you in adavance for any help you cna offer with this.

Brad:
A 1/8" above horizontal sounds low for 3 under, but several factors effect nock point. Like the tiller of the limbs. It could also be a spine issue. Need a lot more information.

That's normal wear for me.  Every bow and arrow combo I've ever used with that type rest wears just the way you described...Van

Van,

When do you decide to replace it?

Whenever it starts wearing into the wood or starts making noise.  Just stick on a new piece of velcro  :wavey:

I was having the same problem with my bear. I started shooting cock feather in and this stopped the wear. I also shoot 3 under and I am just a rookie. When I started shooting a bare shaft to find where my bow wanted the nocking point I got kept moving it up until the bareshaft flew best and hit the target just a little nock high. My nocking point is 3/4" above the shelf. I bet I could turn cock feather out now. Maybe one of the more experienced guys on here can tell us if I did this right.
