Need help for 1st Bow project!!
« on: January 26, 2007, 10:39:00 PM »
I would like to receive recommendations on what would be a good choice  for a first bow project?
Should I go with a kit or should I buy products seperately ?
Which book or DVD do you recommend I purchase for this? Would it be easier for a T/D or One piece bow?
 Recurve or longbow?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
I am really excited about starting!!

First you must decide what type of Bow you want, and what are you going to use it for, Target shooting or Hunting?

Then I would go to your public libary and check out all the books you can get your hands on and read up on Bow making. Then contact Dean torges at Bowyers edge.com, also contact Bingham Projects and talk with one of there Bowyers there. Contact 3-rivers Archery they can be of great help also.

You can purchase videos on Bow making that can be of great help also. But first you got to decide what it is you want....ONE SHOT...

You really need to check out Dryad bow blanks! I just finished one and it was a great project. Wingnut and Jason are very willing to help if you get stuck. They also have a dvd that comes with the blank. I highly recommend it, and they also have come out with a take down  blank. Good Luck

I would also recomend the Dryad blank for a first timer. You'll need to invest in less tools, you'll see what a pro glue-up looks like, you'll get an awesome tillering tutorial... There are many advantages to going that route. Best of all you'll end up with a beautiful shooter the first time around, which should help boost your confidence.

I started out making an osage self bow, got me a copy of the bowyers bible volume 1. The book is an excellent resource for making self bows. I have recently started making laminated bows using the plans and form I got from binghams. I have made a takedown longbow and recurve. I would investigate it all but in the end I would go with whatever you get wound up most about. I dont have any experience with Dryad but know that Mike and Jason will take good care of you.
She said " did you see that?" He said "Of course!!!" She said " Why did you step in it then?"
