Cavalier Tab - how to hold (what size)?
« on: March 16, 2007, 01:47:00 PM »
I am experimenting with a Cavalier tab and am curious as to how any of you who use one have it set in your hand.  Should the rear of the rigid plate rest into the fingers/palm interface or actually set into the palm some?

With various sizes and trimming of the leather, many possibilities exist......

I have average size hand ( large glove) I put the string up against the front of the plate. I don't like the thumb rest so I took it off. I also line the string up on the first joint and the plate sets back to my palm but not into it too far. I think it gives me a more consistant hold on the string. Hope this helps. :0)  Drew

Try placing the "keeper" string over the two middle fingers

Bob W, the answer to your question is that the rear of the anchor plate should actually settle into the palm of your hand with the string butted up against the front of the plate, thus insuring consistency of grip (assuming you're using a deep hook.) Most people when they switch to a competition tab like the Cavalier wrongly assume that the tab should completely cover their finger tips. However, after you've shot a new tab for a couple hundred shots you'll begin to see precisely where the string comes off the tab. I then trim my tabs to about 1/8" just before that spot, which leaves my fingertips exposed; but they never touch the string as they are flicked out of the way during release when you relax the hand.
Drewsbow, the metal piece you removed was not a thumb rest, but rather a chin ledge used for an under the chin anchor.
