Help me buy a bow
« on: April 15, 2007, 04:54:00 AM »
Hello

I am fairly new to archery and I need a bow of my own, the one that I use right now is old and is starting to warp a little. I have some difficulty finding bowyers that can make bow long enough for my draw length (32 1/2") at a reasonable price. I am looking to buy a bow with an AMO of 66" or even better 68". So if you know a bowyer that can help please let me know.

Thank-you all
May your bow be swift, your arm steady, your eye focus and your arrow deadly.

I wish I had a good answer. But, not sure I do. That is a tough question. You didn't mention your preference be it longbow or recurve. My only advice is, before you lay down any cash on anything, get to a TradEvent in our area or region somewhere, talk to some bowyers, at many events they actually will have demo bows for folk to shoot at try out. Next best thing, get to local trad shoot and talk with the folk there.
Someday you and I will take the Great Hart by our own skill alone, and with an arrow. And then the Little Gods of the Woods will chuckle and rub their hands and say, "Look, Brothers. An Archer! The Old Times are not altogether gone!"

Great Plains makes a 68" longbow (very nice) and a TD 66" recurve.  I would think either would accomodate your draw.  You can email them and ask.  Of course Hill bows can be 70" and would also work.  Here again call them and ask.

Thanks Al Dean Ill check with both of them...

As for my preference, sorry I though I add mentioned that I like to shoot recurve. Until now the only bow that I shoot without stacking or pinching is a vintage Shakespeare Wonderbow model RH-100 66"... a good bow but a bit old ....
