Trouble shooting
« on: April 24, 2007, 07:46:00 PM »
I am having some trouble with my shooting and I hope you guys can help. I have a problem with not getting the bow to full draw; I pull untill my thumb has touched the corner of my mouth and then release. I shot about 30-40 arrows today and I pulled it to full draw maybe once. When I do get it to full draw, it 'feels' right and I shoot very well, much better than I normally shoot. But I'm not able to correct it. Any ideas? Suggestions? Please?

Get a clicker and see if it will correct your short draw syndrome.

I second the clicker. You can also practice drawing your bow several times without an arrow before and after each practice session to ingrain the feel without having to worry about loosing an arrow. Short range, almost point blank, shots work very well, you don't have to worry about hitting the target and can concentrate on getting to full draw. Hope this helps a little.

Have you considered "blind bale" shooting? That may cure it.  :archer:

Try shooting with your off eye closed for a while. It should force you to make sure things are lined up which should get you to full draw.

The clicker is a good idea I used one for a bit but took it off because I found it distracting.Worked great with my eye's closed just workin on form no distraction at all only when I tried to hit something did I find it distracting.

Shooting up close at a blank bale is a good idea. The object is to shoot your best shot everytime without having to worry about hitting anything just working on form.If you can shoot you'll be able to hit.

Hit anchor and take a second to settle in "know" ya got it and then let down without shooting. It helps to say who's in control.Speaking of letting down, listen to yourself. This was/is a tuff one for me but I've gotten a lot better about it.If you think you should let down at anytime during the shot process it's best to listen to yourself.

Of course I'm assuming you can handle your draw weight LOL I wish I had a light weight bow to work on form myself it'd have made it easier.

Good luck!!
Shoot straight and have FUN!!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I wanted to stay away from the clicker as much as possible so I did some searching on this site for any info. I found Jay's thread, saying he would help anyone who e-mailed him, and I did. His drills are really helping me out. I've still got some work to do, but I feel I'm getting somewhere now.  :archer:
Oh Dean, tried that, and I still short drew it.
