conquering TP -I think

About 5 years ago I switched to 3 under from split. I could always hold my own shooting split, but loved how fast I could get on target with 3-under.
Not sure how long after I switched, the dreaded TP started creeping in. Every year it got worse. After a few years I could not make myself come to full draw.

So I started some self-analysis. My problem seemed to come from getting on target too quick. So, I went back to split and quickly could pull back to full draw. I think by having to take a little longer to get on target helps me concentrate and not snap.

I was shooting high, but grouping. So that can be fixed.

Anyone else cured their TP by switching from 3-under to split?

No one has had TP worse than I. (I'll give them as bad, but not worse.)  I didn't switch anything but have pretty much conquered it.  If your switching works, great!  But TP is a bad mental trigger and switching may only be a temporary reprieve.  I would spend some time pulling on target, holding then letting down or releasing.  Control of the shot is key and a "never varies" shot sequence and timing" may not be control and may lead to a re-occurance.  I have to do this at an aiming distance.  Blind bale doesn't work since if there is no target there is no Target Panic.

As usual if you or any of your IMF force are captured you may ignore any of this advice.  :)

I don't know about the Target Panic cure;  but you only are shooting aganist yourself.  Never worry about what someone else is shooting.  Scores are not what is important.  Making each shot you take the very best it can be is important.  Using the same routine each time will make it automatic.  I would say concentrate on the target and your routine on each shot.  Breathine, relaxing, sight picture, release, and follow through.  Think the arrow all the way to the target (NO Peeking)!  I say relaxing and probably mean forgetting everything else except the target.  I didn't mean forgetting your back tension or droping your bow arm either.

Target panic can be put into remission for a while, sometimes a long while, but I don't think it ever goes away entirely.  I've been fighting it on and off for about 25 years now.
