Shooting School/ Rick Welch!
« on: May 26, 2007, 12:47:00 PM »
Hello everyone. I have been shooting traditional for about 1.5 weeks.  I thought, I want to start off on the right foot so how do I do it. One of the guys (mark/ crossarrows) contacted me from this forum. Great gang!  and put me onto Rick Welch of Dakota bows. Rick teaches a one on one personal, two day intensive shooting school.  I signed up and went. Not having any prior knowledge of shooting mechanics or form. Rick took me from the ground up and really had me shooting pretty good after the first afternoon.  I can now shoot 260+ on a 3D course after the second day. Now those shots are only 15 yards max and an ocasional 20 yard shot, but for a beginner, I'm happy as a pig in sunshine with a full belly!

NOw as far as Rick's bows (Dakotabows.com) they are super smooth and super fast!  I really like them. I don't own one yet but they are nice!  If anyone is looking for either some instruction from one of the best shots you'll ever see, or a great bow, give Rick call.  SUper nice guy...  He has won over 40 world championchips and is still down to earth as you will ever meet.
Blessings
Blessings,
Steve

He is a really cool guy...you should get his dvd's, my favorite is "The Best of OverKill Outdoors" it shows him bored on one hunt so he shoots a squirrel in another tree....lol.... The other videos are instructional videos...I used to work at Leaf River Sports in Petal, Ms. He and a guy I worked with were buddies...

I switched my complete style of shooting after watching his videos, after about 15 minutes of practice I was shooting better then I had ever shot since I went full time trad gear.

You got to love his humor!

What does he do different? He was at a shoot I attended a few weeks ago and he can find that 10 ring.

Good timing on this topics, as I just had a chance to see his "Volume 2" video.

I thought he was gap shooting or something, but he claims to be a "pick a spot and concentrate"
shooter.  I'm not sure if I missed something, but I kept thinking "that's it??"

He seems like a cool guy, and he sure gets rave reviews.

I shot in the group behind Rick earlier this month, on a 60 target range. He ended up only shooting a 590, and 10 is as high as you can score on a target. He is a pretty decent shot
and a super nice guy.
I always hit where I'm aiming, but rarely where I'm looking.

Brian,  Just get them through Kustom King or 3 Rivers.  Get Volume 2, it is a very good video.
