Second draw
« on: June 23, 2007, 07:44:00 PM »
I have found that get very good accuracy when after drawing and going through my mental checklist and then USING THE PROPER BACK MUSCLES (emphasis intentional) draw back perhaps a fraction of an inch more - then releasing during this "second" draw. I suspect the improvement has to do with increased recruitment of the rhomboid muscles. The difference is dramatic. Any comments?
If in doubt ask "What would Willie do?"

Some times if I don't pull that last little bit, my shot will screw up....

If I go through a mental checklist at full draw, I feel that my concentration on the target would be lost. I don't think it would work well for me personally.

Read Byron Ferguson's book.  He writes of hitting full draw and then taking a deep breath to gain that last little bit of back tension.  I think he is talking about much the same thing.

get the video Master's of the barebow.  Pay very little attention to what the archers say but watch everyone at 1/2 speed or slower and look for comanalities.  You will find your secondary draw in most of them and a couple of other things they all do.  Some of it contrary to what they say they do.

Dryfire,
Man I'm glad you posted that. I went out today and tried it and MAN ALIVE, I was hammering em in there! Course, I was confined to my garage due to the heavy rain today but still, when I did the second draw it was way righter groups. Just wanted to say thanks! Have a great day, HH
