Form w/new bow - swing and straight draws JC & Terry?

I've never tried to post a video of my form, any pointers appreciated.  I seem to notice that when I reach anchor, I cock my elbow up a little - is that what they call torquing the string.  Does everyone do it a little, or is it something I should work on?  Thanks for the help!  Steve  p.s. plus enjoy seeing my first lam bow at work!  Just finished it this week.  Love it.

OK, interesting. the first 2 shots the draw was done nicely and the last two shots you raised the bow and then drew the whole way.Stay to the first way and swing up while your drawing.Alos watchout where your anchoring, youll see your hand is pulling or plucking way back after release.Again wear the back quiver and start learning to draw out of the quiver and onto the bow without a hesitation.Becasue if your hunting you aint going to get alot of time . Bring the bow up while you start the draw. When the bow is lined up on target you can complete the rest ofd the draw straight back to your mouth.When you release both hands do nothing,just hold the postion as if your picture was being taken.Get the Hittem like howard hill video and youll learn easily.

Couple of things - I know I did two different draws; swing and straight.  Hunting whitetails out of trees I tend to straight draw to limit movement and swing draw happens when still hunting pigs from time to time.  That said, aren't you supposed to "pull through" the shot?  I try to keep that bow arm up after the shot, but I thought the draw hand would move back naturally upon release.

No. Do not continue drawing back after release!!! When its anchored just open the finger and let the string slip off keeping the draw hand on the face and the bow arm still holding the bow on target. Make believe Im taking your picture and keep that position until the arrow strikes the target.Thats followthru. Incidentally I shot my first big deer from a tree stand and I was able to swing draw . You go into motion when their not looking. Both  ways produce motion anyway. Dont break the beautiful rhythm of the swing draw.

One other thing. Why is everyone in these videos picking up arrows .They should be in your back quiver.You should learn how to grab the arrow out ,nock it on the bow without looking in seconds.

Here's a few more for critique including a still of anchor.  I guess one thing I should note, is I broke my bow elbow in three places as a kid, thus the somewhat bent arm.

The swing and straight draw are both very usefull.  The problem I have with the swing is sometimes my arm does not stop comming up and I shoot high.  But that is the form of draw I use most.  As far as your release goes it looks good to me.  As long as you pull straight through your shot and your hand goes straight back you are fine.  Check out some of the shooting videos here in the members video forum.  I believe Terry Green draws through his shot like you are doing in your clip.  Keep up the good work and shoot straight.

'Pull Through' and 'Static Release' are just styles, one is not better than the other for everyone, each  individual must find what release style works for them. Proper alignment is much more important as defining the foundation of the shot, and the release is just a variation in style.

Hittin them like Howard Hill?.....Hill used a Pull Through release.....

I think you are on the right track as your alignment looks pretty good.  All 4 releases on the 1st clip are a little different, and I think that will smooth out with more practice.  Can't tell but it looks like you are consciously telling yourself to release as well and that may be the reason for the differences.....you should be relaxed when you reach anchor, and it 'appears' that you are a bit tense.

Don't think you need to change much at all, just spending a time shooting your bow as you are will probably bring it all around.

That video was from John Schulz, be pretty much uses a static release but also makes it a point to mention that bringing your elbow straight back after the release is OK. Just don't bring the hand away from the face.

Yes, 'Hittin em like Howard Hill' the video was by John Shultz, but but the clip I posted was Howard, and Howard did not have a static release, and his hand did move rearward away from his face.

I should have said outward from the face, not just away from the face in my last post. Schulz mentioned mentioned bringing the hand rearward or back is fine, but not outward.

Yeah Bob...leave out a word or phase, and it can get mighty confusing can't it.

Just watched that Hill clip again. It's surprising what a loose grip he seems to have in that clip and the amount of bend in his bow arm. But I have seen Howard shoot what seems to be a variety of forms.

I heard once that Howard was 6'2" I believe and often used arrows that were 26" long. Truth?????

Terry, I had the pleasure of shooting one of Howards arrows at Bob Wesleys home. From what i recall I believe it was around 27"

I obviously haven't caught back up to my own thread.  Will definitely continue working, will have to go for some personal coaching.  Maybe Cohutta won't be so bloomin' fogged in that we can actually shoot some this year!

Did you notice Hill letting the bow kinda spiral down in his hand on that release.  Looks like me spinning my putter after a shot.

Oh, and I have to build a new riser for my bow.  Let a loose nock slip off the string, dry fired that puppy and the riser split.  Cut the throat a little deep into the phenolic stripe or it might still be shootable.  At least the limbs still feel sturdy.  Steve
