release revelation
« on: July 04, 2007, 09:12:00 AM »
In my compound shooting as well as my stick shooting techniques I have been striving for that back tension release. Well after studying Howard Hills and Terry's videos I have noticed that when they draw their fingers are keept tightly curled and as the string is drawn past anchor the string just slips away and there is no conscious unfolding of them. Now I understand when the fingers are referred as nothing more than hooks that are the fianl connection between bowstring and back muscles.Personaly I find if I really press those fingers tightly into my cheek it really helps me keep that string in good alignment and lessens the chance of hand flying away and causing a left or right miss.I think now I will be able to more concentrate on the spot and as long as my bow arm is anchored I should increase my consistecy greatly!

What you have discovered is, for me, 1/2 of the secret of good archer.  Get the video "Masters of the Barebow" and run the sequences at as slow a speed as you can. Each of the archers has different mechanics and aiming techniques, but all are good shots.  If you can identify what they all do the same (HH does also) you will know what it takes to improve.
