got my first trad deer
« on: November 11, 2007, 10:20:00 PM »
I have been a compound hunter since I was about 18 years old. This year I made a promise that if I could shoot an elk at less than 20yards I would sell the compund and go totally traditional. Well I shot a cow at about 5 yards this year in August with my compound. I came home from Co. and started to practice for at least an hour a day everyday with my recurve. I was able to take this little buck this year during the NY deer season. I have to say I am more proud of this deer than any I have taken before, Traditional archery has really made archery exciting again for me. The compound is on **** and I bought a Centaur longbow already!lol!! I have been absorbing info on this site for a while...thanks to everyone for all the help and information!!

reduce your pic size and re-post please....congrats!!

I used a chek-mate hunter2 62" 56#@28. Beman mfx arrows with a magnus 140gr. 2 blade. I shot the deer at about 20yards...didn't quite get a pass through but, the arrow did come out the other side. He went about 70 yards before he expired. It really was like taking my first deer all over again.

Congrats, KS!!  There are some good eats there, you did great!        You'll like the Centaur, they're very nice bows ( I have a Selway Lil Mag - same bow).

Good job. How do you like that quiver? I've been thinking about picking one up for my longbow.

The quiver is great on my recurve,on my longbow it tends to slip a little if I shoot fifty or so arrows. It is perfect for hunting just not so great for target shooting. Super light quiver though!
