I feel like an idiot...
« on: September 22, 2007, 06:24:00 PM »
Here is the deal. I have been shooting a few rounds every other day or so. Lately my accuracy has gone to crap, causing me to self diagnose what I was doing wrong. I started with my anchor positions because when I started trad I had a habit of short drawing/snap shooting. Anchor was fine.
Then I moved up to five yards. I missed the whole target!  :banghead:
Now, I just about started panicking at this point.
I am ashamed to say I even thought about getting out the wheelie...
Then on one last shot, I noticed that my arrow was sticking out way past the shelf at full draw.
I instantly eased down, and looked at my body position....my shoulders were perpendicular to the target. A wave a nausea, followed by relief(I knew I could fix it) passed over me.
Somewhere along the line, my form(body wise) went out the window. I immediately adjusted myself, drew, and wouldnt ya know it? Nailed that imaginary black dot in the bull. Whew.
From now on, practice will be for accuracy with extreme detail to my stance AND form.
This type of stuff happen to anyone else?
From now on I am beginning every shot by aiming my shoulder at the target...
If you guys have any suggestions or advice, hook me up.

I also have to make sure that my shoulder is down the target line, What has helped me to no end is a "pre shot waggle" like in Golf....I turn so my shoulder is facing down that line(I think it puts the back in proper position for good back tension?) and as I draw and release I say to myself..." Dead Deer " drawing on "dead" and releaseing on "deer"... My golf saying was " Cindy Crawford " LOL... Another Glorious Day to Excel...David

Yep...  Soon as my anchor starts floating out I know I'm getting back into it.  You've already figured it out so all you need to do is be aware when it starts to happen.

I'm not one to think your foot position has anything to do with the shot so the best advice is, as you've already said, get that shoulder at the target regardless of your position to make a good, in-line shot.

Anchor and back tension are most important but remember ya alway may not be able to point your shoulder at the target. Practice like ya have to shoot at the muzzy, up,down sideways and backwards, twisted and half laying down, than ya will be ready to bowhunt! Shawn

Im very glad to report that I shot great today. I focused first on aligning myself to the target and back tension., Once that was working ok, I adjusted my anchor a bit, and man those arrows were hitting! I was shooting 25 yds at one point and grouped better than I ever did with a wheelie....nice boost in confidence.
