Reverse cant, hmmm?

Okay Terry, I think I figured it out. If I start to draw before reverse canting the arrow stays on the shelf (usually). I tried the over the left shoulder shot like the one in your video, but don't see much application for it in the woods. I can cant normally going that way and hit better.

However, reversing the cant on a shot to the right (for a right handed shooter) allows nearly a full draw and offers a shot opportunity one would not have with a normal cant of the bow. It takes some practice as the arrows tend to want to go left that way, but I was putting three out of four in the vitals from 20 yards that way until I got rained out just now. This may be something to add to your repertoire of shots to practice. I have had deer stop, stand and grin (so it appeared) at me from the right and I just didn't have that shot. Gonna keep working on that one! Maybe I can wipe the grin off this year.

There's a segment on reverse cant in The Bowhunters of Trad Gang DVD on keeping the arrow on the shelf.

And yes...the over the shoulder shot is a little extreme, and there's not much use for it in the field, but just goes to show what you can do with a trad bow.

Keep at it, and it will be 2nd nature.
