WHat kind of aiming do I use?
« on: November 12, 2007, 03:22:00 AM »
How would my aiming style be classified? What I do is raise my bow, put the tip of my arrow at the correct hight and left/right of the target, then switch my vision to the target and draw/release while focusing on the target.

It sounds like a form of Split Vision.

That sounds about how I shoot.  I call it pre-gap instinctive for lack of a better name.

I like how Big Sneaky describes it...Pre-Gap.

Seems to fit more or less what you are doing before your draw cycle.

It is a form of split vision. Either way it is instinctive shooting as you do not use sights. If it works for ya keep it up! Shawn

Instinctive Aiming has a specific definition just as Gap, Split Vision, Point of Aim, String Walking and Face Walking all have. Just because an archer is aiming barebow does not automatically make them an archer who aims Instinctively. By classifing ALL barebow shooters as Instinctive Aimers only adds to the confusion of what Instinctive Aiming really is...at least IMO it does.

We share the same view BLACK WOLF, there are many ways of shooting a bow without sights.  It really doesn't matter as long as the person shooting is happy.  Based on what I have read here on this site,  many guys use a combination of shooting methods.  I envy those who can, but I perfer to keep it the same straight down the line.

All I know is that it works well for hunting situations simply because the only movement is the draw arm moving straight back.  I have shot like this for about 15 yrs and it has been good to me.  I can't say I gap shoot because if i get to concentrating on the arrow point too much I lose concentration on the target.  If I go with instinctive (swing draw style) my bow arm gets to jumping all over the place.  Therefore, I think we shall just add a new name to all the styles mentioned above.  Pre-gap instinctive.  :bigsmyl:    :biglaugh:    :biglaugh:
