Draw length
« on: November 13, 2007, 02:51:00 PM »
Hi, just a question....

I shoot my compond (mathews Conquest Apex)finger release, my draw length is 29. I also shoot a recurve (Danilo Rossini Rapace) with 50 lbs and my draw length is 29.... I have just to order a new BW PSAII 55 lbs at 29... I have been readying at the BW web that I should order the recurve one inch shorter from compound to recurve... is that afirmation asuming that compound shooters use to use necanical releases??, or should I have ordered my new BW at 28???

Thank You all....

I believe you will be fine, the reason it is often stated, and the reason that they recommend that at Black Widow is simple, compound shooters really open up when due to the let-off feature of the compound when they draw. Traditional bow shooters, are more compressed due to the lack of a let-off, we are hold what we draw from the time we reach anchor to the time we release.  This compresses the draw, so it will likely be a little shorter.

I shot nearly two and one half inches longer when I shot compounds than I do with some of my traditional bows.  I am one inch shorter with my SAV Black Widow, and two full inches shorter with my PLX and PLA.

With the latter two, I am shooting those bows with a grip that requires that I heel the bow more, a traditional longbow grip of you will.  My SAV is shot with a more high wrist grip, similar to when I shot compounds.

I would not worry about the inch difference with your Widow,  their bows pack a punch that other bows I have owned even at the same draw weight didn't have.

Congratulations on your new bow.

Ok, Thank You Scott.

Just let me ask other thing.

In Spain we use to hunt hogs during nights, of course under the law. I have been hunting hogs with my compound for years using a ligh added to the bow with an universal red dot mount, no sights, just the ligh. That is basically the only use for my compounds. I ordered the BW PSAII with 55lbs in order to be able to hunt these hogs with a recurve, the problem now is that I do not know how to attach the ligh to the bow, without holes or something like that. Do you have any idea or do you know somebody doing the same thing over there??

Regards.

Why not get one of those lights that attaches to your head.

You can have Widow add an brass insert for a rod holder or light holder just like the stabilizer hole on the compound. As far as draw length get a wooden clothespin and put it on an arrow while sitting on the bows shelf, draw slowly until anchor and than remove arrow and measure the distance from the valley of the nock to the clothespin, that will give your exact draw length. Thank You Guys,

Cvarcher, Hogs in Spain are under a great hunting pression. You can not be seated on a tree stand with a light shinning in your head while you are hunting, at least if you want to see them... Of course, you neither can move to turn on the light when the hogs are under the tree.... I will show you the solution that I have for my compound using a tactical light and an universal red dot mount.

Shawn, do I have to do a hole in the bow??, I do not really want to do holes in the bow. I´ve seen at Trhee Rivers something used for a rod holder but without holes... is that what you mean???

Guys, sorry for my English......
