I try to stay off these threads, as I dont want anyone upset...but heres what I see:

Alignment looks great and shot timing aint half bad. However, your relaxing at release and maybe a bit of anticipation.

Whats your shot conculsion?

Rod glad you chimed in.Don't worry about me being upset its why I posted.I've watched that clip several times and my release is were I also feel I need work.I'm trying to relax my hand and just let the string go but don't have it down yet.Any advice?I'm trying not to anticipate the release but I guess I still am.You said shot timing ain't half bad.Do you mean how long I hold at full draw?Do you think I should slow it down a little more? Thanks tradrick

I may have seen the same thing that Rod saw, but couldn't put my finger on it.  You have such good form in general, I would imagine you shoot pretty well.  You have a completely different shooting style than I do: three fingers under, hold your shot at full draw, so it's difficult for me to make comparisons.  Do you use an aiming system?

What I think all shooting systems have in common is the need to maintain tension at full draw.  I do it by never stopping my draw; I am pushing with my bow hand and pulling with my string hand until I release.  Right before release, the pulling and pushing might be only millimeters, but it's always moving.

With your system, where you stop at full draw, how do you maintain your tension?  I notice a slight tendency for your string hand to move away from your face on release, and your bow hand to move to the right and down.  Could this be caused by a slight reduction in tension between the time you reach full draw and release?  I'm not criticizing your system, because many good archers use it.  I just don't know the answers to the questions I posed.

"I'm trying to relax my hand and just let the string go but don't have it down yet.Any advice?"

Thats the idea, but it seems you stop pulling and thats where the collapse at release comes from.. Remember you never totaly stop pulling, even at anchor and  increasing back tension, before actaully rleasing is a positive thing.
Try thinking of it in these terms: after I commit to the shot, I'm gonna increase back tension and move toward my conclusion and sometime during that move, the back of my hand is gonna relax a bit, but I'm not gonna think about my release, only increasing back tension and reaching my conclusion.

Conclusion can be anything you like, as long as it takes longer to reach than it takes the arrow to clear the bow1 Mine is my fingers touching the shoulder...yours can be anything you like.

A lot of guys shoot very quick and to a degree, that works for a lot of folks...one thing I'm sure of..if your train to shoot a good deal slower, you can always speed up if needed ! Watch the HH tapes...HH could shoot very fast, but when a shot called for a higher degree of precision....he could slow his shot down and take as long as the shot required...and thats what I strive for, the ability to become slow and sure when shooting at tiny 11 rings and to have the abilty to speed up and shoot a buck thats only gonna pause for a split second between to saplings, or on aerial targets.

clear as mud?

Thanks Rod and McDave. You both are correct I am stopping to settle in if you will a split second or two before release.I am capable of slowing my shot sequence down if need be.I have to admit when I do I'm usally slapping sticks.McDave I do use a aiming system.A gap system descibed as the same one our very own Rod Jenkins uses in MBB1.Thanks for the input guys I'll work on it.tradrick
