Shooting video
« on: December 12, 2007, 09:45:00 PM »
I am looking for a video to help me with my shooting. I have tried the "Hitting'em like Howard Hill" method with mixed results. Besides I have a hard time with the swing draw from a tree stand, and most of the places I hunt around here do not lend themselves to 2nd shot opportunities ( I like hunting the REAL thick stuff). I thought about gap shooting. Any suggestions. Thanks and Merry CHRISTmas!!!!!

In the video John speaks in very fundamentalism language.  However, if you watch all the Hill videos you will see that quite often that from the hip scoop isn't there.  the bow hand still comes up faster than the drawing hand, but it doesn't come from down deep.  On moving targets he sometimes does a half draw in almost an at target position before the object is tossed.  Ferguson also did this, it works great on those downward shots.  One of the problems that crop up is that shooters that start the draw very low tend to keep lifting the bow throughout the draw.  If you watch Hill quite often you see a slight down and right motion right before release. That would also help from a tree stand.

You arent giving the Shultz tape enough time. Im positive you can swing draw in a tree stand. It is more natural than those compound pullers! This year I arrowed a deer shooting under the canopy of branches that were in my way in a half crouch.Believe me ,this is the way to do it. You lack confidence in yourself. Stick with it and work on it.I dont believe Gap style  works in the field at unknown ranges.Have you done what Jophn said in the beginning about not using a target and just shooting 3 weeks at the bales working on your form. You can close your eyes and feel everything ,the string, the anchor the release. Memorize it all. There is only one master of the barebow and that was Howard Hill. No one yet can approach what hes done.
