IBO worlds...

I want to get more serious about my tournament shooting and was wandering what to expect if i went to shoot in worlds.

The IBO Worlds is a very well put together shoot. This is the first time it has been held in Ellicottville NY so I don’t know much about the area or terrain. The World has always been a good time for me every time I went. Hopefully this one will be too. Expect to feel a little out of place at first amongst the masses of compound shooters. But the trad guys are mostly just like the trad guys you see at normal trad shoots. Hook up with a couple of them and you will feel more at home.  


The way its done is you qualify at a local qualifier or one of the Nationals and then send in your qualifier papers to IBO along with the shoot fee. They will send your shoot times and score cards back to you in the mail. After that all you need to do is get to your course on time. Course Maps can usually be found at lodging areas or the main IBO registration booth or possibly on the internet once it gets closer to time for the shoot.

 You will shoot 20 targets on Thursday and 20 targets on Friday. If you make the top 5 you will shoot 10 more targets on Saturday. Ties count so there may be more than 5 shooters in the shoot offs. Sunday is a backup day incase of thunderstorms or bad weather conditions. So make sure you can stay till then if you expect to be in the shoot offs.

Your score card will have range and shoot time. For example if your card says Thur Range D 10:00 AM. Show up at range D by at least 9:30 - 9:45 and turn in your card to the official running the booth. 3-4 other random shooters in your same class should have the same shoot times as you. They will send your group out on the course at 10 then the next group will be sent out 5-10 minutes later. They usually give us are own course away from the compounders so it goes pretty smoothly. You may not even get to see the group in front of you or behind you during the shoot.

thanks tom that is a very good description of the whole process. what is the normal range of the targets. I know our distance is out to 30 yards, but do they mix it up a bit or do they max out every target.

very informative.  I had thought about going to IBO worlds but just wasnt sure about doing it.  Im the local ASA state champ and have shot IBO targets.  not much difference besides the exact location of the 12 ring.  ASA its low and IBO is center 10

Shots are mixed - and a lot of thought goes into setting them. Uphill, downhill, shadow to sun, sun to shadow, across gullies - all things to make you think about the shot.
Longbow I believe is still 25 max.

Shooters range from average to the best - come on out!

String Tracker - what class you shooting - be good to have new faces as well - should be a doable drive for you.

Off the shelve with index finger touching nock, you would be IBO Trad - largest trad class.

ive been thinking of switching to release.   is that allowed and still be in a trad class?

Sorry no release allowed in any of the three trad classes. You can shoot one but you would have to shoot in one of the classes with compound shooters.

Wow...this is the first I've heard of the location change. I was really planning on making the trip, but the additional distance may be prohibitive. Darn, and I had free place to stay in Indy.

In any case, sounds like a good location. Just wish it were 10 hours closer.

I myself am also interested.  How many shoots can I look at doing With out breaking the travel Bank.  Nothing haenps anywhere near me in COLORADO... Is there any reason why Vegas is so Trad-unfriendly??

Its about 3 hrs from me - no excuses!

I'm going to be working near there in March 0 going to check out the lodging and such.
